I think it has gone way beyond laughing at them, surely they should be pitied, rather than laughed at. It looks to me (admittedly an outsider, I don't have that much knowledge about them) that they are completely dysfunctional, and don't fit in very well with society.

If you want to talk about something being 'completely dysfunctional' then lets have a chat about the UK property market, outside of London & the home counties it's currently totally paralyzed with nobody able to either buy or sell due to ridiculous, unrealistic and unachievable asking prices.

Just because you can't afford them doesn't mean that asking prices are unachievable. Most of my properties are in London anyway, so from a strictly personal finance perspective, I'm not particularly interested in the market outside of London, apart from the effect on the general economy of course.

EDIT: Why are you attempting to steer me away from what I actually said, which was that the posters on HPC are dysfunctional? Most of them seem to be complete idiots, who are detached from the real world.

Believe me house prices in my locale are very much unachievable regardless of whether I can afford them or not.
I've never seen so many properties brought to market only to sit unsold for anything between 1-3 years before the vendors finally throw their toys out of the pram and withdraw from the market rather than accept reality.
From what I've seen there are only a small minority of HPCers who are extreme and deluded enough to think that prices are going to come back down to anything like 3x wages... there are far more deluded HPIers around who think current asking prices are realistic and the market is in a healthy, functional state.

It doesn't matter what HPC'ers or HPI'ers think or want, the market will dictate what the price is. We decided a couple of years ago not to buy anymore property anyway. I do think current levels are high, but a forthcoming crash isn't very likely IMO. I just don't think additional property investment will be very profitable over the next 10 years for us, it doesn't mean that I am going to sell our current portfolio though, due to low interest rates, there isn't a more profitable investment to move our equity to. But we will be selling up in about 10 year timeframe (market dependant) as I am 57 and we don't have children, and there is little point in being the richest person in the graveyard. So that equity needs to be realised and spent.

Some real weeping and gnashing of teeth over there now that the Conservatives are back in power for the next five years.

Lots of them now falling on their respective swords and buying.

Shame is that if they hadn't been so blinded by the groupthink on HPC, many of them would have bought years ago and be some way down track of paying their own mortgage, rather than their landlords mortgage.

That's bizarre. I seem to remember them blaming the Labour government and policies for everything before I got banned.

I have pity on people that are earning a decent wage but still can't buy a house. But not for that lot. Their celebration of every bit of news about job losses and repossessions - because it meant that their STR gamble might pay off - was just vile.

That gamble has never paid off. I dont see any reason why it should now.

My favourite video clip from HPC is here:

Sold to Rent in central London in 2004 waiting for the crash that never came?? Ouch! I'd be bitter about that too

Following the election results, they are all planning on emigrating.
Obviously, they all possess skills which are in high demand globally.
With such skills, one wonders why they're still lingering in bedsits into their late fourties. :rotfl:
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

If you want to see extreme, then take a look at this thread from post #10 downwards (whilst you still can as I suspect there will be some removals!)

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that's another Foxy account, instability like that is rare.
