I can't believe the amount of comments defending the ridiculous fees that dentists charge...... especially on a money saving site.....
You do your best to save money all year only to hand it (+extra) over to someone who smiles sweetly to themselves as they jump into their top of the range Audi & drive into the sunset.......
What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!

I pay for private treatment and think it's good value for money. My relationship with the dentist is good and I feel that I receive good care. When I had a white filling done he spent about 10 minutes working on the finish and it was impossible to see it when finished.

The very low prices for consumer electronics has warped any sense of what things cost.
    Happy chappy

£72 for a filling & checkup, took 20 mins....... If i were to charge you £72 for putting up a shelf which took 20 minutes you would call me a rip-off merchant..... No???

How long did it take you to learn to put that shelf up?

What sort of facilities do you need to provide in order to put that shelf up safely?

What support staff do you need when putting up that shelf, and how well do they have to be trained, and what professional body do they have to be registered with?

How much continuing education do you need to do each year in order to be allowed to carry on putting up shelves?

    ..............................................................................................
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

How many regulations govern how you dispose of the waste created by putting your shelf up, and how much does it cost to comply with them?

Do you have your own building overheads when you put up shelves in other peoples houses?

Do you pay the customer for the electricity you use whilst putting up a shelf in their house? (Or the electricity for charging up all your other tools rechargeable batteries whilst you do it?)

Do you need to be current and up-to-date in recussitation and life-support techniques in case any of your customers have a medical emergency whilst you're working on their shelf?

Do you risk being 'struck off' if you put up a wonky shelf?

And after all that - I wouldn't be a bit surprised if there were quite a few joiners/handymen out there that WERE charging 72 quid for 20 mins work putting up a shelf!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lol.... I would have been surprised by anything other than your reply Toothsmith, as the self appointed chairman of the 'Support a poor dentist association' you would have to defend the £200 per hour wage......
Your sneering comments make you seem to look down your nose at other peoples professions.
I may not have the 'social standing' of a poor overworked dentist but for your information i served 5 years apprenticeship as a workshop joiner, have passed exams for goldcard etc (health & safety requirement for working on sites), have my own building overheads, charge my battery tools on my own premises & in my own time as well as cleaning them afterwards, risk being bad mouthed (teeth optional) if i put up a 'wonky shelf' & you get all that + my 27 years experience for one tenth of what a dentist charges per hour....

Please be nice to all MoneySavers. There's no such thing as a stupid question, and even if you disagree courtesy helps.

So if you have your own business you'll understand the difference between £200ph wage and £200 ph overheads?
