Is there a law that says dentists shouldn't be allowed to make money?
I'd rather know that a dentist is earning £100k a year than know that a footballer is earning £120k a week.
That awful woman Claire from The Apprentice mentioned an £87k a year salary with a £27k bonus. The Chairman of Tesco gets something ridiculous like £5million a year.
People pay £45 to watch a football match or £200 to see George Michael.
If you feel your dentist is ripping you off you have several choices:
- find a new dentist
- don't go to a dentist
- train to become a dentist yourself0 -

The sad thing is, that for the majority of the working class population out there the only option there is number 2 which drags the populations dental health back into the dark ages with everyone running around with a mouth full of rotting stumps.
The spiralling cost of these new monthly dental plans at £30/40 really rule out number 1 as all dentists charge similar rates & for number 3, well it would be nice to see the country flooded with dentists doing BOGOF offers to bring punters in....lol...What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!0 -

No there isn't but are the NHS dentists even doing the work to justify that wage which is coming from Government funding?
In Northern Ireland this is far less prevalent but certainly in England and Wales who have used a different Treatment charging system since 2006 it is wide open(Has now been partially amended) to be exploited with no real proof the work was ever done.
It's been in the papers a guy who just invented patients and claimed for treatment on them.0 -

So it's NHS dentists you have the problem with?
Good job they're all going private then isn't it?
Charging the patient the proper fee directly for work done is much less open to abuse.
bribrian " Working class population"? Gor blimey guvnor how very 1950s of you!
Have a wander round a 'working class' population one day (I doubt you live amongst one). Count the SKY dishes. You can get private dental insurance for half the monthly cost of one of those things. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
I haven't got a problem with NHS or Private dentists at end of the day they both pay my wages whichever they choose to do.
I think Private dentistry is far simpler for all parties involved.
I have a problem with the NHS Dentistry system and the way government money has been paid for work that has never been done. This is not the dentists fault as most are unaware of the fact but it's still a big problem in the system and money that could be used elsewhere in this country.0 -

100% agree! :T
I don't think fraud is THAT bigger problem though, but where it is uncovered the amounts do tend to be pretty big.
On the whole, I would think that MPs expenses cost the country more than NHS dental fraud! How to find a dentist.
