when buying a loaf of breead, where do you actually keep it?

I am asking all where do you keep your bread when purchased?

I keep my bread in the fridge, but according to a BBC2 programme this is the wrong place to keep it, as it increases the time bread takes to go off.

I think the cold tempreture breaks down the yeast.

I rarely watch TV but caught a glimpse of it at a neighbour's house half an hour ago.

I buy YS bread, which last upto 2 weeks in the fridge. Since I have the odd slice toasted and then turned into cheese on toast , the alleged "staleness" is lost on me. :D

As there's only two of us, it's kept in the freezer and slices are defrosted, toasted or fried as & when required.

I freeze it when I buy it and keep it in the cupboard once I've taken it out.

I don't think it is where it is stored is the problem but the quality of the bread.

I have bought bread from Sainsburys brand and it's gone off in days, sometimes before the use by date.

On the other hand I have bought M&S bread and it has been fine for up to 10 days after purchase.

And I never keep my bread in the fridge. Personally I think storing bread in the fridge makes it go off quicker.

This is because of the moist conditions in which the bread is stored. Spores love those kind of conditions.

  • Don't buy "bread" from a shop make your own :money:

Tastes better, less additives and never lasts longer than two days in my house :D

Keep it the work surface under a cake net BTW

I keep bread in the cupboard, but I have noticed that if I use a loaf that I have previously frozen and defrosted, it will last a couple of days longer before going stale / mouldy.

I was very surprised that they said keeping bread in the fridge made it go stale quicker. Over the years I have kept bread in a bread bin, just on the worktop, in a cupboard and now in a fridge. I find it keeps longer in the fridge so will carry on with that
