It will slow I think as I found small savings amounts and premium bonds when clearing up and have been selling loads of stuff on eBay which I will run out of at some point! Its a great feeling to be nearly halfway though.

    Onwards!

Thanks all for your kind words!

Was so excited to bring my debts down so well, and yesterday I set up a new standing order to one of my debts which will clear it by the end of the interest free period at end of this year. I upped the payment to the other so as to reduce more whilst still letting me build up a small surplus on the current account for these house moving expenses.

I drafted the consent order for my divorce, that felt weird and sad, I cleaned and painted and mowed til it was dark. And now I am completely and utterly exhausted. Need sleep. Duvet day. We all have different stresses and strains don't we. Mine are telling on me hard at the moment.

Hello diary. Well I have been ploughing on. Cleaning up,sorting out, selling off, gardening, scrubbing, working, ferrying kids, cooking and just a spot of literature. I re read The Old Man and the Sea by Hemingway. First read this when I was young and don't remember thinking much about it. Except that it was about an old man. And the sea.

This time I am older. And the passion of the man fighting for his last fish, knowing it will kill him and that it is useless and yet still doing it. Goodness. It made me put back on my marigolds and put my shoulder to my own wheel fast enough.

It is payday on Monday. My account will look healthier than it did in all those years of a high income splashing in, and splashing out just as fast. I am content. Tired, but content.

    Hi Polly
You sound like you are doing great. Well done you. Have never read the Hemmingway but it is often interesting to go back and revisit past favourites with older eyes.
I'm sure the divorce paperwork must elicit very mixed feelings. But you do sound positive.

    Have a good day

The end of the month and.check in day is in sight. I was doing well and then got a bill for £675 for legal work on my divorce. Well needed, and cannot fault my lawyer who has done a fast efficient job but ouch. I was celebrating the fact that the balance of holiday home payment of £550 wasn't due til 2 July which would make my end of month declaration much healthier...but not so! Well, it is the least of my financial losses from the divorce I guess. It has to be done. Matters progressing well on house purchase front. It will be a considerable downsize. Small cottage but a bedroom for everyone, a wood burner, and the most lovely garden with spectacular views. And no room at all for clutter so it all has to go! Still making good money on eBay selling off. I have mixed feelings about leaving the family home. It has been a lovely place for the children, so much space, and so many memories. But so much upkeep that I cannot afford and so many memories of a marriage which has ended. In a community where he is still living with the woman I told him to leave over. Socialising with my old "friends". Life deals different hands. This one is a tough one and has hurt me very deeply.

Polly - your new cottage sounds gorgeous. A wood burner will save you lots on heating & everyone will enjoy it and gather round. Sounds a lovely new home.
Sorry you got hit with the unexpected bill. Those are never nice. But as you say it's the last, & you are making so much progress aside from that.
It must be very hard seeing your OH parading the other woman around. She must have some hide to be comfortable doing that, any good person would want a fresh start.
Keep focusing on all the progress you are making for you and your family.

    Check in day is here.-

Have reduced my debts to £5857 at 1.7.15

It should feel great, it does feel good as debts were £6776 a month ago. I have heaps of expenses coming up in the next couple of months with my house move, if it ever happens...you've got to love the complexities and uncertainties of an English property chain. I have just been doing my forward planning and with those expenses plus hugely expensive kids bus passes, new uniform, a simple but still they're never that cheap are they west country holiday, I will be hard pressed not to go backwards. If I do I know it will be temporary but I just don't want to slide. Well there we are. I owe that debt and have some high expenses so I will have to get on with it. And maybe it will prompt me to eBay extra hard as I absolutely must get out of debt by the end of 2015.

And the reality is it was £6776 at 1.6.15

So I have reduced my debt by £919 this month. That's a few decent steps in the right direction. I have to remind myself I was overspending by over £700 a month at the beginning of this year. Not a bad turnaround, even with the slowing down. Onwards!

Polly from where I'm sitting you have done an incredible job to reduce your debt so much in only 1 month.

I was feeling a bit flat the other day and read this article on how to feel calmer at any time. It recommended sitting still and cupping your hands. Looking into your cupped hands and saying to yourself 'in this moment I am fine' it's all a bit new age I suppose but I have found myself thinking of it a few times since. As I have a tendency too to worry myself into next year with 'ifs and buts' maybe you will have to go back and forth a bit with the debt but the main journey is started and moving forward well.

Good luck in this heat today.
