which is the default account on my credit file (in my birth name, not the name I changed by deed poll).
I don't know what to do. I am supposed to be applying for a mortgage in the next couple of weeks. Which, I assume, I will be declined because of this.
I haven't had time to tell them yet, they're closed, but IDK what to do next. How long will it take for them to rectify/investigate/whatever they do?
I feel sick and sad and angry all at the same time.

You will need to report it as fraud if you want it removed. Which will almost certainly mean reporting it to the police.0

I've just done that. I reported it through Action Fraud and got a reference number. Now what? Do I call the debt agency and give them the ref? I don't have time for them to take ages to process this0 -
I would contact them as soon as you can. I honestly don't know how quickly it will be actioned though.0

Unfortunately realistically this could take months to sort.
The creditor/debt collection agency are unlikely just to remove it and will likely carry out investigations in to the ID fraud first.
Occasionally some debt collectors may remove an entry whilst they investigate but may then put it back on if after investigation they don't accept that it was ID fraud.
Should they not remove it then you'd need to speak to a mortgage broker to see if which if any lenders may be likely to lend with the default on file. How old is the default? is the debt unpaid? is mother willing and able to pay off any outstanding balance?
Have you got copies of your credit files from all 3 agencies?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Tixy, I got all three reports back. I spoke to both Experian and Equifax who removed the defaults.
CallCredit is being more difficult. They said that only the company who put it on can remove it.
Default is almost 4 years old. Mum said she will pay the balance in full, but isn't that just as bad as an unpaid default on my account anyway?
I don't have months0 -
I have reported it to actionfraud
I just spoke with the debt agency, I need to get a letter from my Mum accepting liability. I feel so bad0 -
Why do you feel bad? You're Mum used your name fraudulently - she should be the one feeling bad.0

can you add a 'notice of correction'?breathe in, breathe out- You're alive! Everything else is a bonus, right? RIGHT??0

surprised Experian and Equifax are just removing on your say so, are you sure they are not just disputing the entry?Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
