i don't have an issue paying to support pensioners that have paid into the system all of their life, and hopefully that will be me one day(if i live long enough
). I dont have an issue with supporting pensioners, they have saved that money to maybe give their families a 'leg up' in life.
I do however resent my wages being 'taxed to the hilt' to support the amount of parasites in the UK that are able to work, but chose not to.
Which is why they get the SP. If they have savings of that sort of amount, then they don't need additional help, they are perfectly able to self fund whatever they want to do.
Why should my oh continue to pay tax on his pension, to give to someone who has substantial savings just so they can fund their family? We don't mind paying tax (we've done it all our lives after all) in order to help people who need the help (and I don't mean the shirkers either, but the genuine needy) but I resent paying for folks who have a dammed sight more money than we have though!0 -
Regardless of age, no one should take something they're not entitled to.
It's really simple to understand.
Unlike the benefit regulations on what constitutes 'capital'0 -
We've already established they have been overpaid by about £50,000.
The council and HMRC (if Pension Credits are involved) will want it all back and probably more. Your parents will be in poverty for the rest of their lives, but I think the risk of criminal prosecution is minimal. It all depends on the £30,000 being repaid, if that's gone walkabout they could really be in deep doodoo.
If I was in your position I wouldn't tell anyone; your parents owe so much that there's too much to lose, and by telling you're guaranteed the worst-case scenario.. This capital hasn't been picked up so far and the chance of it ever coming to light will recede with time, particularly as the capital is no longer in their account.. Investigators respond to specific allegations from other agencies or the public to access bank details, they can't just go on 'fishing trips',and as long as you stay schtum no-one is likely to be ever the wiser..
If they ever do catch you you'll probably get no worse treatment than if you had confessed, particularly if your parents stick to the 'not our money' line, or claim amnesia or ignorance..0
