                    Hi
I am looking for some full advice, as much information as possible.
We bought a brand new 14 reg car back in 2014 funny enough.
we paid cash in full for it.
since buying the car, it has been back into Nissan on numerous times throughout the year with different issues,
we have just had the car back after Nissan has had it in for 4 weeks.
The fault is that all the air vents rattle, is is a common problem on all the models, but Nissan does not have a fix for it, being such a new model.
talking to others on various forums, who have the same, and their dealers have also tried various methods to fix it to no avail.
now a rattle you say, well its not your normal kind of annoying rattle.
They have had the whole dash out to try and sort it, not only making the existing problems worse, but finding others in the process.
after fitting it all back together it now sound like the dash is about to fall apart.
we are looking at rejecting the car, one because the car has been in for so many times, for various other problems but also the above which there is no fix for, even the mechanic said the the design for it is the worst he has ever come across.
we are writing a letter to the dealer stating it all and that we would like to reject the car.
After all that, can anyone tell me what are the ins and outs of it all.
will we lose any money over doing it, if they offer another car, does it have to be of the same year and mileage, if they offer us a recent reg, will we have to make an extra payment.
below is a copy of the letter we are sending, not yet edited and worded correctly, sorry its very long.
The mileage is 4269
As you know we made a cash purchase for the above car on the 23/04/14 at your dealership, Wessex Garages, Cardiff.
The car has been into the dealership on numerous occasions from the very outset of purchase, this included the day of collection when the car was found to have a scuff on one of the rear wings which I had to point out to the salesman, who then proceeded to have it buffed out just before handing over the keys to us!!
The passenger side wing mirror housing was also chipped. I pointed this out to the salesman who stated there was nothing that could be done about this. It was not until I pushed the issue that the wing mirror was replaced.
Since then, there has been a catalogue of problems with the vehicle where it has has been booked into the dealership on numerous occasions where varying rectifications from trim coming away, trim discoloring, new wing mirrors, dash info screen replacement (twice), scuff plates, the list goes on to present time, and will be listed on your records.
I appreciate that you have shown good will and tried to rectify each and every problem that has arisen.
I appreciate that on a test drive during the afternoon with your mechanic to our house, to try to replicate the vibration after he had heard the recording I had made. We were not able to replicate the vibration noise as the vibration can only be heard on a cold start first thing in the morning (which I did point out to you) which now continues for up to 0.2 miles.
Yet again the car has now been returned to us once more, on this occasion having spent the last four weeks being worked on. Various issues that were identified by two of the dealership mechanics on a test drive before booking the car in.
When working on the car the mechanics found additional problems which had not shown up on the test drive which resulted in having the entire dashboard removed.
Upon release of the car, besides still having some of the original problems which it went in for, in some cases the issues have been made even worse with new additional problems. as well as making the undiagnosed vibration noise on a cold start off even worse now!! Whilst discussing the car with one of the
mechanics, on his own admission he stated, the air conditioning configuration was the worst design he had ever seen before. Also, the same mechanic stated, that the problem with the steering noise which again I had recorded as it did not show up on another test drive, this was played to Andy and Jon, when working on the car they found out there was indeed a problem, and again when discussing the car afterwards, it was stated that this is also a very bad design.
Having contacted the dealership on the 28/04/15 to complain regarding the various rattles of now both of the air vents having increased, the centre vents now also rattle, the top of the dashboard vibrates , a buzzing sound out of the air vents, having to tap the dashboard in places now to stop the various rattles and vibrations. as well as the afore mentioned vibration noise being worse, I was tolled to bring the car into the dealership for a test drive again
One of your mechanics took the car for a test drive which upon doing so none of the above appeared.
It was stated by the mechanic knowing myself from previous issues that if I could try and record the issues which I had done on a good few occasions in the past which had proved there was indeed an issue although it had not shown its self up on a test drive., this might help.
Having have to do this just to prove that there is indeed a problem is unjustifiable.
I appreciate that there will be rattles from a mass produced vehicle , however reading from a ged few of Nissan internet forums, many owners are complain of exactly the same air vent rattles, which I am completely happy to spend the time printing them off to forward to you.
Having contacted their own dealerships whose mechanics have also not been able to rectify the problem, and it now seems that Nissan has no solution to this this.
And you cannot justify the man hours to look for any small rattle
I appreciate under these circumstances it can be a great problem to point out where these problems are situated on the vehicle, I think it is down to the dealership to find the faults and not for me to try and record them just to prove a point.
Based on the history of the car since purchase and all of its problems, the statements from the mechanics and the fact that Nissan has no solution for the problems The dealership has had numerous chances to rectify a lot of the problems over the ownership we have had the vehicle, and being it a New vehicle we would class the vehicle as not fit for purpose and therefore we wish to reject the vehicle.

You'll want to remove the name'n'shame in there...
As for rejecting a car after a year for trim rattles - good luck with that. "Not fit for purpose" is a stretch. I'd be taking it to a different dealership for warranty attention.0

With the past attitudes to Citroen C3 Pluriels leaking like sieves, ditto Ford Focus, Jaguars with rattling dashboards and BMWs with noisy doors, I don't think you are going to get support to reject your car on non-safety dash noises that don't effect the use of the car. Be persistent with the dealer, escalate it to Nissan UK and remind them, frequently, that you have shelled out for a new car and you will remember this issue when you are buying in the future.0

I'd love to be in the office when they recieve that letter..
"Ay up, this one wants to reject cos of a rattle on the air vent.."0

Hi Col, Yes Niassan UK would be our next stop, I have already had dealings with them over the past year because of my dealer not beg to helpful, as in not sorting out my steering problem in one case.0

We maybe list the rest of the problems we have had besides what we have listed. as far as mechanical.
As far as one of the vibrations noises, this can be heard from out side the car as well as inside. not exactly quiet.
Found two sheered bolts in the engine compartment.
 Steering box needed attention.
pulling to the left at one point.
Auto braking sensors braking the car in the rain out of the blue.
The auto headlight function decoding its night time all day and wont switch off unless you turn them off manually.
Gas strut on boot stopped working,
Chrome plastic trim starting to discolour under the coating, trim coming away from car.
something in the door which made a constant noise which turned out to be something to be with the anti theft device on the door.
wing mirror chipped, exchanged for a new one, which turned out to be a used one, had another new one which was scratched underneath, had another new one,
Centre info screen scratched on the inside of the class/plastic, replacement was the same, replacement was delivered also scratched,
last one fitted ok, then they scratched when cleaning the car. Apparently this is also a common problem.
 Wiper box thingy needed attention,
One air vent veins were not working correctly,
replacement fitted with the rubber on the thumb wheel to ope/shut the vent torn.
 The list goes on.0

My car has developed an annoying rattle from the overhead light and the soft close glovebox piston is broken. But then it is 11 years old “I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.” “I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
