We cancelled our Taste card last year but my wife has just looked at her bank statement and Taste Card have taken a renewal payment this month. Any idea how she can get this money back? She cancelled by phone so unfortunately we don't have any proof that we asked to cancel, unless she missed a confirmation email that went to her junk email.

I should also say that the payment was taken directly from her card rather than direct debit, how legal is this in the age of GDPR when she assumed the subscription was cancelled?

Ohh Thank GOD, I thought it only happened with me. I got it done by cancelling my card and shutting it down completely. :)

I found that with most annual policies, they are happy to give you a full refund when you cancel shortly after renewal.

I had that happen with the AA, zipcar and a few others that I cannot recall right now.

Zipcar was a particularly generous case because it was with my business and with these things companies usually enforce their contractual rights more rigidly on b2b transactions.

tastecard really isn't worth it any more. They give you discounts which are extremely rigid with timing. Who goes out for a nice meal at 12-3pm on weekdays? I remember people were raving about it early on when they had true BOGOF deals. Then they turned into main courses only. With the starters/sides and drinks it doesn't save much in meal.. For the small saving you'd rather just go at a time that suits you not when it suits the restaurant. Also the restaurants were dropping off the card constantly, all the good places dropped out.

Tastecard are still continuing this practice. Under Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 you have the right to cancel a contract within 14 days of renewal. They are saying that these regulations do not apply to them for two reasons that firstly because of s28b the contract is personalised because they send out a card with your name on!!! & secondly you agree to the terms when you sign up that future renewals are not eligible for a cooling off period!!! This is clearly not a bespoke service & just because they send a card out with your name on doesn’t make it personalised. 2 Under the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977 unfair terms are disallowed in a contract. This term/clause is clearly unreasonable. PLEASE CALL TRADING STANDARDS 03454040506. The more calls they get the better as it builds a case against them and means TRADING STANDARDS will respond.

Or people could just make a note in the diary when its due for renewing.

Thanks for sharing, everyone. After reading these stories I won't be getting a tastecard.

Well, as the thread has already been resurrected, can I just ask why you are trying to cancel on the phone? Take out a 3 month free tastecard via quidco or topcashback who will give you £3 for doing so. When set up, cancel using online form. https://www.tastecard.co.uk/mytastecard/cancel
Then you get email to say sorry you are leaving but feel free to keep using to end of trial. No autorenew will occur. Then repeat with another email address. Very easy. Easier than finding out why this comment seems to be double spacing, sorry if it still is when I post it!

I have the same issue.  I have been offered a 6 month extension or a £10 partial refund, but I have said to them that i didnt want the card, and in anycase it is impossible to use right now, given lockdown, and the 'stay at home' benefits they have added are of no interest to me.  the whole point of the tastecard is to use it when going out which we cant' do.. so far they have refused to provide a full refund and were quite belligerent in a sort of 'bring it on' way, when i said that i would refer their intransigence onto Martin Lewis & moneysavingexpert.
