    Given the position of the fire in the room, the lack of a chimney breast or external sign of a chimney and the fact it's an electric fire, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the whole thing had been put in relatively recently. There might well not be a fireplace opening or constructional hearth at all, in which case removing the whole thing wouldn't leave you needing much more than a lick of paint or a bit od wallpapering.

    There must have been a "proper" fireplace at some point given the age of the property. I wonder if the chimney was removed when the upstairs was added.

    I wouldn't be too fussed about the fireplace as long as they made good.

    It is a lovely window and a shame they have covered it with the TV, I'd be tempted to build a window seat across with storage inside but that might be cos I have kids and would want to hide the toys away.
