Two electricity meters and switching supply

Just to provide some follow up (long time, I know, but have had a number of trips, and SSE are a little slow in responding) - I have been informed that switching to an E7 meter should be free. So pretty good news - maybe I have to sign a 5 year contract to stay with them, or soemthing0

I would urge you to first get independent expert electrical advice on your whole setup (wiring, appliances, metering, tariffs, the lot).
Attempting to switch from a legacy metering/tariff usually ends in tears (unless you really understand the consequences)0 -
Hi Footyguy. What sort of variables should I consider? I am mainly switching so that I have options for moving to other providers, and won't be doing anything different, except perhaps adding a PV solar system. what are the pitfalls?0

I'm in similar situation , on a std super deal with SSE. Want to be able to compare and switch.
Just wondered if you made any progress and if it has saved you money?
Thanks0 -
Most of my BTL flats are on Flexiheat rather than Superdeal, as flexiheat gives a low rate from 1930 to 0730 daily, and all weekend.
I recommend you ask to change to Flexiheat. The stored heat units are the same cost as superdeal, but the evening/weekend units are only slightly more.
Forget about changing to Economy 7. Yes, you will have cheaper night units, but you will use far more day units to boost your heating in the evening, plus of course a lot is wasted while you are out at work. The beauty of Superdeal/Flexiheat is that you can turn your storage down every night, and up every morning. This minimises the discharge while you are out, while still giving a nice warm home when you come in at 5pm.0 -

Hi, sorry, didn't see this. Yes, we switched meters, and then switched to Flow. Had a good reduction in the montly charge, but they have just upped it after 6 months. I have got into a discussion about what it should be! But i won't really know until we can measure the results over a full year.0 -
Hi,
How easy or difficult was it to switch your meter? Did you need to call the DNO or your electricity supply company (i.e. SSE)?
I am asking because our supply company (SSE) has been passing my husband from pillar to post and have tried telling him that the two-meter scenario is best for us even though we don't require the daytime boost. They can't tell us whether if we were to switch to an Economy 7 meter, this would make our storage heaters charge during the day either. They shouldn't as they are supposed to be designed with Economy 7 in mind but it's all very ancient.
Also, did it cost to get the meters changed?
If we don't get this changed, we can't change supplier and take advantage of better tariffs available elsewhere.
Thank you in advance!0
