Two electricity meters and switching supply
Dear Money Saving Experts
I have recently tried to switch to Flow Energy, but this couldn't be done apparently as I have two electricity meters, (apparently also know as related meters)
Is it possible, or a good idea, to get my meters changed to a more flexible system? Does it cost much, or am I better off overall with my current meters?
Thanks for any advice!

You would have to speak to your supplier about getting your DNO to remove the meters and replace them with a single unit, then get an electrician to sort the wiring on your side of the meter.
Your side of the meter shouldn't be a problem, but your DNO may pull crazy prices for their bit. It is hard to know until you ask for a quote.
Once you get a quote you can think about how long it would take to get back what you have paid out, and make a decision on whether it is worth it for you.0 -
No one can tell you if you would be better of with different metering without knowing what your current tariff and usage is, and how you use electricity in the property: i.e. for heating, hot water, cooking?
Do you have a mains gas supply? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thanks for the info. Is it a problem with many suppliers? Or was I just unlucky in this case?0

Macman - good point. We have no gas on our street, so everything is electric. I use about 68% of my energy at night (storage heaters and hot water)0

You are still likely to be better of on standard E7 where you can switch to competitive tariff I would think.
2 meter usually means 2 lots of standard charge.0 -
Hadn't thought of the possibility of 2 charges. The standing charge is 24.5p per day, so sounds as if it is essentially the same as one0

So some kind of E10 system-what tariff?
Very few providers support E10/Heatwise.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Macman - as far as I am aware, it is not an E10 tariff. It is with Southern Electric.0

So why not look at your bill/statement and tell us? Otherwise no one can help you without the basic info.
Is this possibly a private sub-meter, or is it a system with two meters and two MPAN's (if the latter, your bill will show this). No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Hi Macman - there are 2 MPANs. All I know about the tariff is that it is called Standard Superdeal - we bought the house a year ago, and I was fairly sure it was an Economy 7 type of tariff. No where is there anything to tell me otherwise.0
