Oh no IDA, sounds like you've had a nightmare

I'm sure it looks great, what does your family think?

Nightmare is the truth  . Only dh and dd have seen it so far, dh likes it blonde :rotfl: so its a bit of a shock for him, dd says its different - very tactful for a 5 year old I thought :rotfl: ! I've just washed it with washing up liquid and intensive conditioner and it has paled slightly but have to be careful it doesn't fade to pillar box red:eek:  ! Its growing on me, I'm sitting at the computer with a mirror beside me in the name of getting used to it not vanity .... honest!!!:rotfl:
    Thanks for all the advice!

  • My hair is blonde and I often try to dye it darker. No matter what I do it quickly fades back to blonde. I had lovely aubergine lowlights put in about 5 weeks ago and they are blonde already.I expect by the time you have been on holiday and had a swim it will have faded.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times and I'll smash your face in. :D

I have also heard of the "Head & Shoulders" shampoo remedy--it was recently in a women's magazine I read...I think it's the original sort (as there are now several different kinds). Also a cheap remedy, for those of us watching our pennies on a DMP. Good luck :)

Definately do not let the sun get to it especially with lemon juice that is a huge recipe for disaster. I would wash it daily with the head and shoulders seeing as two people have mentioned it and its cheap.

Thing is home hair dyes do not last long at all colour wise give it a few weeks and see how you feel then. If you can't live with it go to a college.

    Hi,
Years Ago I Died My Hair And It Ended Up Purple In Sheer Panick I Called The Product Helpline And They Told Me To Wash It In Head And Shoulders Shampoo It Did Not Fully Come Out But It Really Did Tone It Down ,hope This Helps

What did you use NSSN? I would LOVE purple hair :T

    IDA, you poor thing.

I did something dreadful to my hair earlier this year. I got so fed up with it, I gave my daughter the kitchen scissors, and asked her to give it a trim for me. She protested, but I persuaded her. 'Just cut between my hands' I begged.

Well to say it was a bloody mess was an understatement. I took the scissors to my DH, and asked him to straighten the ends, he laughed hysterically and said they needed more than straightening.

That evening, I had to go to a function at school. I obviously put my hair up :o

Anyway, I got talking about what I had done to one of the mums, who dragged me over to another mum. It turned out the second mum was a qualified hairdresser :D

She came round the following morning and sorted it out for me. Will I ever do it again - NOOOOOOO. It seems she always has her scissors on her when she picks up her son, so if I ever need a trim, all I have to do is ask :T

Have you tried the Head and Shoulders yet?

Oh, I think it sounds fab! Sorry you've had a nightmare with it, but dark burgundy sounds lovely to me and will look great with a tan (or a bit of bronzer if you don't tan).

IDA - sounds like a fab colour to me! I would also advise not putting anything else on it for a while - let the chemicals already there calm down a bit first!

In terms of returning it to normal, it's probably a case of needing to check all the chemicals against each other for reactions - so make sure you keep the packaging from all the dyes you've used as if you do go to a salon it will help them!

Sorry IDA I can't help but I can make you feel a bit better...

A few years ago my blonde highlights were growing out so there was just a couple of inches left on shoulder length, layered, curly hair. Looked a bit daft and I didn't have money for more so I bought hair dye.

I tried to dye my hair copper (get sick of mousy colour hair too). The colour didn't take anywhere except on the bleach end bits.... where it turned a lovely shade of salmon pink!!!!

Now anyone who knows me knows that I do not have pink in my home decor and do not have pink anywhere in my wardrobe. If it had gone blue I would have been happier!!!

So after having my cousin laugh at me all day, I went and bought a dark chocolate brown colour and put it over the top. Thankfully it covered it, but I wasn't amused.

On the other hand, a friend of mine tried to dye her hair burgundy and it came out 100% purple - she had difficulties choosing clothes that didn't clash!! :D

If I dye my hair its brown it goes erm brown maybe with a red tint that erm fades to like a brown colour.
  • Thank you all so much for the responses - they made me smile! No1 son (aged 19) has just seen it and he thinks its different but nice - that is praise in deed coming from him - lol!! I'm swinging (not like that - ahem) between nearly liking it and crying - as crying won't help I'll have to go with the nearly liking it. Going to go and buy some head and shoulders now, its worth a shot ??? Wish me luck - I'll let you know how I get on!!

PS: Agree with the tan thing Snaggles, it definately makes me look pasty and I'm quite pale anyway - will try some bronzer (not permanent though lol)!
