Drinking Holiday Insurance

Hello,

I am going on holiday to Turkey next week. I don't normally bother with travel insurance as have only travelled to western Europe previously. I am expecting to consume a lot of alcohol over the ten days so thought I should best get insured in case the worst happens.

I found a good quote online and rang the company to make enquiries. She told me that unfortunately I wouldn't be covered if I was injured whilst intoxicated and that is is an industry standard practise.

Can anyone recommend a company who provides insurance for medical emergencies whilst intoxicated?

Many thanks

What's the maximum you'll drink in a session and how soon after the session are you likely to be driving?

I have been known to have too much, although as a big lass have a big capacity, but never have I travelled or even started drinking with the express intention of getting drunk.

Can I ask why the need to go as far as Turkey to do this if you are going to be so blatted that you may not even notice where you are?
  • OK Let's give it 6 weeks when the OP will be back saying what can I do about medical bills from Turkey not covered by insurance.
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.

Don't drink as much is my advice, cheaper for you and not as harsh on your body.

    Who mentioned driving?

Intoxication is a standard exemption for almost all travel insurance policies but I suspect the vast majority of people drink to excess while on holiday.
  • I'd be less concerned about the affects of alcohol on your body and more wary of what Turkish men could do to you when you're mullahed.

Even at the best of times they're a pain in the backside and they do like a big lass.

Travelling to Western Europe without travel insurance is incredibly foolish.

In terms of your question, it's industry practice and I've not heard of any policy that includes any acts that may occur whilst intoxicated. I'm not sure how rigorous insurance companies are in checking this? If you slip and break your arm how can they prove you were intoxicated or not, unless for some reason the hospital includes it in your notes.

Get insured, on the understanding that if you do anything daft, or if anything daft's done to you while p155ed it's tough t1tty... but if you're minding your own business, sober, and fall down the stairs the minute you arrive then you're sorted.

Then you're covered, with the power to give away insurance cover on an ad hoc basis every time you drink booze.
