Coffee Machines

ReneRTores, what is it with the American spammers today ?0

This post is a year old, so I'm sure the OP has made a decision by now.0

As someone who has had all types of machines here is what I feel about them-
Cafetiere - Probably the least desirable and convenience option and only a notch better than instant. But its cheap so no harm is keeping one at the back of the cupboard.
Nespresso - Good quality of coffee and crema. Very convenient. Coffee once exposed to air goes off in 2-3 days. Nespresso is the only way to get fresh coffee every time if you are a low user (2-3 cups a day). IMO the unbranded pods you get elsewhere are cheap but crap. Pods are expensive but there is a decent range now so there should be something for everyone.
Other pods - Not as good as Nespresso both on quality of coffee or range of coffees.
Machine that take ground - Excellent end result but a bit off a faff with the ground and worth it if you drink several cups a day so that the faffing around with ground coffee atleast gives you a great coffee. I would highly recommend buying a coffee grinder and grinding a daily quote off coffee every morning and then enjoying the fruits of your labour.
Bean to Cup - Expensive for what they are but bring together the convenience of a Nespresso type machine with the coffee quality of a proper coffee maker. I would only buy a Saeco or Jura machine and neither are cheap. Dont fall for the cheaper substitutes as they are simply not as good.
In summary, I have a cafetiere at home when the bean to cup goes for a service every 18-24 months(yes the service makes a huge difference). I also have a Nespresso which was replaced by the bean to cup about 3 years ago. Its just sitting in the cupboard.
There is no one correct answers and the right choice very much depends on what you drink and how much. Hope this helps. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I think the Cafetiere very much depends upon the coffee you put in; with the right coffee it can be excellent.
I have found that the Nespresso coffee can irritate my throat.0 -
The most important thing with coffee is the quality of the bean and the quality of the grinder you use - the actual mechanism for making the coffee is almost of secondary importance and mainly influenced by the style of coffee you prefer. Never buy beans that do not clearly show the roasting date and then ideally use the beans within 4 weeks of roasting or at most 3 months. Once beans are ground they should be brewed within a few minutes at most.0

Coffee from Kenco, Costa and Carte Noir. Wait for the "deals" from Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Waitrose then you get your choice of blends at a good price with the convenience of a pod type machine i.e. no cleaning up daily.
You can pick up a new machine for about £40 from a well known auction site.
Espresso, Latte, Cappuccino or Americano - all from one machine.
Good luck with your search.
I now have the newer T20 which cost me just £30 a few months ago, having previously owned the T40 which started leaking after approx 3 years of regular daily use but I've since discovered that was my fault for using cleaning tablets instead of descaling tablets.
I usually buy my pods from Amazon on s&s unless the supermarket deals work out cheaper. Works out less than 18p per cup of Costa Americano or 45p for a Latte Macchiato (plain or caramel versions).
Couldn't live without mine for reasonable quality coffee at a reasonable price and with such little effort to make it.0 -
I give my cat coffee cherries but he keeps doing his business on the neighbours veg patch.
Should I report them to the Police for stealing my beans?0 -
Tassimo is great and I have a hot water dispenser disc so it also doubles up as a kettle.
The Costa Americano is as nice as any coffee shop brew at up to 10 x the cost.0 -

This!
I have - several filter coffee machines, 1 percolater, 2 cafatieres and 2 Nespresso machines (one with aerocinno and one latissima milk system). I am also lusting after a bean to cup machine when I can sneak it in the house.
What my husband doesn't understand is that they all fill different needs and provide different kinds of coffee. And I want to be able to pick and choose.
He suggested I get rid of one of them as I had so many and they take up so much space in the kitchen cupboards....he didn't suggest it a second time
