Coffee Machines

Thanks for the replies. I have tried the aeropress at. Friends, and ready own a cafetière. I'm after a coffee pod machine specifically, and think one of the nespresso ones are the ones to go for after reading replies on here!
I think I worded my original post badly - none of us actually drink espresso so it's proper "long" cups of coffee only we would be making. Not so worried about the milk frother.
Think I'll visit debenhams and house of Fraser and check out theirs.
Thanks again0 -

I decided on a Bosch Tassimo T40.
Coffee from Kenco, Costa and Carte Noir. Wait for the "deals" from Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Waitrose then you get your choice of blends at a good price with the convenience of a pod type machine i.e. no cleaning up daily.
You can pick up a new machine for about £40 from a well known auction site.
Espresso, Latte, Cappuccino or Americano - all from one machine.
Good luck with your search.0 -
I've got a Krupps Piccolo pod machine that takes Dolce Gusto pods. The pods are about 20p each, but I do prefer the flavour to cafetiere coffee. The Americano pods make a nice long coffee.0

Then its not a nespresso you want, as when we say long or short its either a double or single shot of expresso, nesspresso does not make normal coffee the closer you can use is the Americano pod, (to buy a machine for one pod as its a espresso machine) but if you are not going to get the milk frother to me it will be a waste of money..0 -
I have a Nespresso and I love it, but IMO it all comes to personal taste and the way you drink your coffee.. I suggest you try before you buy (either at the shop, friends, etc).0

No problem having mugs of coffee with Nespresso. Mine is set so I press the long shot button once or twice, eject pod, press two/three more times for hot water and I get a mug of coffee. We have the milk gizmo, but I just add cold milk. Works a treat.0 -

OP wants to make normal coffee thou0 -
If you want proper coffee and convenience get a machine that takes ESE pods. ESE is an open standard that anyone can produce so there is a lot of choice and they are quite cheap.
I have a delonghi ec860m (slightly above your budget) and it is amazingly easy to make a cappuccino with the automatic milk and ESE pods and ultra easy to clean too.0 -
I guess it depends where your priorities lie and how much coffee you drink.
I have a Krupps Dolce Gusto machine because I like a nice coffee in the morning before I leave and don't want the faff of making a cafetiere and the subsequent cleaning.
Yes I would get better coffee through a cafetiere or a proper machine using beans or ground, and it would be cheaper per cup. But what I get is decent, and convenient. And when you are time limited, that is what you need. Others will have different priorities. Each to their own.0
