Well, all good things come to an end! We had the family package, ex-o2 for half-price. It has just gone up to full-price in my latest bill, which was the kick I needed to cancel.
I was offered a variety of 6 month and 10 month deals on a 12 month contract, but declined them all.
I've cancelled all TV, so down to £28.90 for phone, calls and broadband. The adviser said a deal was possible on that package, but fibre is imminent here, so I intend waiting and comparing pricing on that. I could end up full-circle and back to BT via Quidco.0 -
BT Group CEO, Gavin Patterson, has called for broadband switching rules to be applied to pay-tv, whilst criticising the behaviour of Sky & Virgin Media...... “Switching is key,” Patterson added. “It should be frictionless but at the moment it’s not fair. They only give the best deals when customers threaten to leave. They put a lot of pressure on people to stay.” ....

This follows a report in the Telegraph last week that Ofcom are to undertake an "industry-wide inquiry into the rise of "aggressive" tactics to retain customers":

We've just cancelled our TV as the current deal ends on July 17th and would have gone up to almost £60 (variety pack, unlimited bb, line rental and anytime calls).
Took almost an hour, she was a bit pushy (nice, but shocked we'd really want to go it seemed). Offered us the full package (minus sports) including movies and box sets for £55.85 (with phone, line rental and unlimited bb too). I was tempted until she said only 8 months which would increase to £81.90! (she said i could renegotiate after then, but that it wasn't guaranteed that there'd be an offer).
So pushed through with the cancellation, have unlimited bb, line rental and anytime calls for £21.40 for 12 months. Will wait and see if they ring with an offer - if not, eh. I'll maybe get a freesat box with recording functions - or might take the opportunity to finally watch the DVD's I've been collecting without watching :rotfl: Maybe I'll finally get a freeview ariel up!0 -
The biggest problem in common here is the Sky retention incentive for advisors which is primarily based on save rate. I.E. advisors who don't cancel a lot of accounts get big bonuses whereas the rest who do what the customer wants get !!!! all bonus!!!
We can discuss the package to death and offer the biggest discounts possible but sometimes people still want/need to cancel.
The retention incentive needs to be based primarily on customer satisfaction and to a lesser extent on save rate. Only then will these tales of woe be put behind them.0 -

BT can talk. It took me one hour and three minutes to cancel BT Sport after receiving an email notifying me of their price hikes. During that time they offered a 12 month contract at my current rate, or cheaper BT Sport by buying out my current contract for phone and fibre with Sky. I said 'no thanks' multiple times but they carried on and on and on.
On the flip side, cancelled Sky Sports and Movies recently. Took about fifteen minutes.0 -
I always tell them I'm going to prison.
SKY need simple answers, a bit like the DWP :-)0 -
