I cancelled my sky package ( £98 a month ) last night. Told them I was moving into a listed building so couldn't have a dish. He asked for address and checked , I gave an address and he said they have sky there :o
I was on my lappy and looked for the number I gave him and it doesn't even exist :rotfl:

I only cancelled so the Mrs could sign up again in Currys or CPW as they had a deal for line rental, unlimited broadband and the variety pack for £16.40 a month.
Went on to hukd to get the details and it ended on the 31st March :(:o :rotfl:

I must admit I didn't have any trouble cancelling Sky yesterday. I just told them that if they could match Freesat prices I would stay and the lady laughed and said "There's not much I can say to that"
  • I don't have Sky, but if I did I'd just write a little script for my browser that responds to every live chat message with "I an cancelling my contact."

As an aside, if anyone cancels Sky and wants to still use their dish, go for a Freesat Freetime box. If anyone is switching to Freeview, go for YouView. They are both no-brainers.
You can simply continue to use your Sky box as a Freesat one.

"Hello. I'm moving so am calling to cancel my contract."

You don't have to cancel Sir, we have a home moving service.

"Great. I don't know the exact address - it's in Malaga, Spain - but will call again when I know it"

You cannot have Sky TV in Spain Sir.

"OK, cancel my contract then please."
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I cancelled yesterday, started by live chat, but then they insisted they phoned me up to speak in person. The lady was trying so hard to tempt me to stay. The process was about an hour!

Surprisingly it only took me about 15 minutes, saying could not afford it. £3 increase and I haven't had a pay rise since 1998
Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring

They can ask, but they cannot insist on phoning customers if they want to cancel via "Live Chat".

Per my post #17, customers have the right to have cancellation notices "processed immediately" by webchat if they wish- 13(c) "Notices" of the terms & conditions.
