He didn't go to a private hospital, but as he was in a coma he didn't produce his e111 card either.
It's an EHIC card, not E111, that went out with the ark. Did anyone tell the hospital he had an EHIC card? If so did they really refuse to accept it because it wasn't shown by an unconscious patient on arrival? Given that you refer to an E111 I suspect you don't have the full story...
The hotels and flights may be cheap but the boys father wasn't paying a penny, as far as he was concerned he didn''t want to be their so certainly wasn't paying anything to be there. The father had cut short his holiday because they thought his son was going to die and he was next of kin, so the insurance paid for that holiday as well.
I'm sure he wouldn't have wanted to be at his son's funeral either, would he have refused to pay anything for that either? If my son was at death's door getting back the cost of the holiday I'm on or paying a few quid for transport would be the least of my worries... some people are weird.

Same with all the stories about people dying and all people seem to be bothered about it the cost that might be incurred, not that someone is DEAD. Well here's a revelation...funerals cost money, yes sometimes thousands.

Sorry just finished work I meant EHIC, i'm afraid he was one of 6 young lads who were all scared when he got rushed to hospital and no one did go with him to hospital. Many hours later the rep was involved.
As for his dad we couldn't believe it either, he was adamant he wasn't giving permission to look at the medical records, maybe due to the fact the lad had leukaemia when he was a small child. Most of us would move heaven and earth for our children obviously there's always an exception, knowing him i'm not sure he would pay for the funeral, the lad had been in a coma over 2 days by the time reps, police, tour op managed to contact him and get him there.
