I gave up looking for yellow sticker stuff a while back.
In my area people seem to work in teams, forming and impenetrable barrier of trollies around the reduced items.0 -
Stores with a defined closing time tend to have better reductions than 24hr shops.
Local A$da does reductions all sorts of times, but significant savings aren't til later and then you find the oiks who barricade themselves in with their trolley so you can't get to the shelves.
The veg and fruit bit can offer up some great bargains - pack of pre-diced onion for 10p and a bag of casserole mix for 35p. That was on Friday evening at about 7. Will all go into soup."Does it spark joy?" - Marie Kondo

I find I get a lot of YS on Monday evenings because the dates take items just after the weekend and my local Mr M'sons are at 7pmWhy pay full price when you may get it YS0

I go to Tesco between 7pm-8pm. Fruit, veg & bread is done to 90% (sometimes even 95%). Chilled stuff 80-90% and fresh bakery 50%.0

Waitrose an hour before closing is often good. And the best bit is that yellow stickered stuff there is still counted with other discounts like 3 for 2.Best 2016 Wins - Nails Inc Bundle, Sebo Vacuum, Walking Dead Figure Subscription0

I was in Tesco today (Sunday) about 11am and they'd reduced huge amounts of fruit and veg, and also loads of meat and fish. I got 6 salmon fillets for £1 each and packs of lamb and beef mince for £1.20 a pack rather than £4. Good timing really as my freezer was looking a bit empty!0

Our Poundstretcher will reduced bready items and cakes at the till any time of day. Usually between 50-75% off.
Also our B & M has reductions all day next to their bread section of bready items, eggs, cakes etc . The reduction is about the same as the above. They also have good reductions at 50% or more in the chilled cabinet but these are mid morning to early afternoon usually. A few things may be still there later.
Our Morries always has great fruit & veg reductions on Friday mornings. Other times are varied. They like to keep you on your toes.AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

Mr M only ten minutes away have not managed to find out what time.
I can guarantee to get large pork pies for 19p every week but it varies on time and the day. Who wants pork pie every week, far too unhealthy.
The fruit and veg are only fit for the bin and so are the flowers. If there is much there you can't get near it.
Last week got a big raspberry trifle for 39p and a banofee sp? desert for 49p, similar to a trifle. They both freeze very well.
I don't think you can ever rely on YS stuff. I mostly find there is not much choice, 50 of one thing, reduction only about 20p, a lot of ready meals.
If you have a local market hall, not farmers market, around 4pm on Saturday is brilliant. Mine does not open again until Tuesday, butchers and fish mongers have very little fridge space, greengrocers no storage. If it won't keep until Tuesday it is sold off cheap.
I usually take my DS with me, he is 21 and he grabs some bargains and I grab others. I really enjoy the frantic half hour. DS has a good nose for a bargain too. eg £5 for 2k of chicken bits, just random lumps of chicken breast but fine when cut int pieces. Prices are far lower than anywhere else without reductions so well worth going anyway.
My best bargain day was one Saturday last summer weather forecast on Friday said hot and sunny so one butcher had prepared lots of packs of marinated chicken breasts. The others had read Saturdays forecast as it absolutely poured down. We came back with about 20 large marinated chicken breasts for £8. Chilli, herbs and garlic, Chinese, tika masala. I love them what ever the weather just fry them.0 -
Popped into Tes*o this morning for cat biscuits, and out of interest after seeing this thread, I thought I would look in the YS corner.
packs of mince, original price £3, now YS at £2.55:eek:, I don't consider this much of a bargain

I agree with you candlelight
My idea of a YS bargain is reduced to half price or less, anything not less than half price and I leave it well alone.
Sainsbury's last week I picked up a YS leg of lamb - original price £7.74, he was reducing them yet again and I got it for £3.74; that's £4.00 off the original price and I think that's a good deal, but there was only one joint there and I managed to pick it up as he was putting it down. Luck of the draw!
I just find it very sporadic and hit and miss, sometimes you hit lucky other times you come up with zilch.Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:
