Afternoon gang ..can hardly write as I'm so angry, I really am...
DD1 took baby to be weighed today as she is a month old and has put on nearly two pounds more......started at 7.5 and now 10.12.
Health visitor said its not enough as she is only on the average line and as she put on a lot in the first 10 days she must be seen again in a week as quote "its not enough".
DD1 is duly upset as she has battled through a lot of sleepless nights and is doing a great job of breast feeding despite baby having a tongue tie.
Health visitor didn't even know how to refer for that and sent her away to do it herself !!!!!!
sorry for the rant but all alone here and just fuming xx
Not surprised you're fuming, so would I be. As if new mums don't have enough pressure. I don't understand "average" is bad now is it..perhaps said midwife needs a dictionary to remind her of what that means. Support DD1 as you so obviously do, keep supporting her. This midwife will be a distant memory-if that, soon enough. My DD had a baby last year and she is early 20's so 1 midwife was a little...I can't think of a polite word I'm sorry...gave my DD short shrift about everything that concerned her until I happened to be with her one day and her manner seemed to improve dramatically in the presence of someone a similar age. Appalling and by no means true of the profession as a whole as the others DD met were delightful and down to earth.
Your DD1, its her baby, she's doing a marvellous job, just do as you are doing, giving support and encouragement.
and come back here and rant away .. its part of the elite service here which is brilliant.:A NI FEIDIR ACH LE DIA BREITHIUNAS A DHEANAMH ORM0 -
If baby is gaining weight what on earth is the problem. I despair breast feeding should be encouraged and there is so much to put new mum's off.
Teeny had a tongue tie and had it snipped, did feed much better after that.
Tell your DD to keep doing what she is doing and be determined that it is the right thing it will work out still early days. xx
Totally agree with you, she should be applauded not discouraged the baby is putting on weight she is doing well not let anyone tell her anything else or put her of xxxxx0 -

site is all squished for me so don't know if this will work......ring the lost line and block the card, I work on that line sometimes and they charge to add her to preference list (which you know is free) about £80 + ......if she can pass security they will send another straight away hth xx
Deffo ring bank asap and tell them wat happened and todecline any withdrawels today.
could be an idea for you to keep mums card as you are always popping in and so if she has any probs to let you know so you can sort it together, then make sure se has abit of cash.iknow its hard enough for us to deal with fraud but I feel sorry for the older ppl, cause these phone ppl can be very persuasive.hopeit turns out ok for u and mum.:APeople bring great joy into our lives..some by arriving, others by leaving.im trying to be one of the former, so please bear with

Thanks Tinyshoes
can't quote you for some reason, but wish I'd been there, she wouldn't have known where to hide ..grrr
I was one of those very pro breast feeding mums.
Glad my DD1 persevered as well, in fact she still is and Teeny is 16 months now. I did give up before then with all of my 3 shortest was 9 months because I couldn't get her to stop biting  and longest was 12 months. I had a difficult start with DD1 being in SCBU for 2 weeks but I was determined. Had a lot of help from lovely midwives. :A
It is the most natural thing and should not be discouraged, especially expectation of some that mothers should be shut away. I was asked beforehand by a relation not to breast feed 3 week old at a wedding. Did I take any notice did I hell, don't think anyone realised exactly what I was doing. Who would eat their meal in the toilets? It is not openly done enough and should be socially acceptable wherever you are!
Sorry didn't mean to rant.0 -
Having a weep now at all the nice peeps here, it was a bl&&dy health visitor ......she didn't even have to go, nobody has even bothered to see her and no appointments so she just went to drop in to see how the weight was.....probably trying to justify their salary , silly know nothings
Can she change her h/visitor or at least complain to a dr at the practise.shes doing really well so just ignore them.they should be encouraging mothers and sypathizing, as its hard for babies and harder for new mums with hormones and stuff.tell your dd to keep up the good work.:APeople bring great joy into our lives..some by arriving, others by leaving.im trying to be one of the former, so please bear with

You know what, that is fantastic weight gain for the first month, babies put on weight at different rates, health visitor has probably never had a baby if that is what she thinks!
My friend (the one with 6 kids) has a very tall and slim nearly 10 year old, she is taller than her nearly 11 year old, they weighed her at school and informed her she was borderline overweight and she is now paranoid about her stomach :mad: She is not overweight, she is tall, there is a difference.
I can understand them butting in if there is a real problem, but your daughter is doing fine and so is my mate. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
