The Virgin Money Essential Account is a basic account and pays 1% interest on balances.

Really good basic account it seems.

Hate to be pedantic but does this involve a credit check? I have a poor credit history but I am changing jobs soon to one that pays considerably higher than my current job. I dont want my money dying in this useless barclays account.

Why not ring them and ask?...

I have a poor credit history...
    In what way?...

    Bankruptcy?
    CCJs?
    Defaults?
    DRO?
    IVA?
    Arrangement to Pay?
    Late payments?
    Heavy unauthorised overdraft usage?
    Or what?

I've had another look on the internet and it seems that there is no way that people with bad credit can get a current account that pays in-credit interest.
    I think it's a bit unfair.

So you have bad credit but have some cash to stash in an interest bearing current account? - not being funny but if you used some of it to perhaps repay any outstanding bills/finance your credit files would improve and you would stand a better chance of getting a full interest bearing current account of your choice.

Possibly. But my debts are larger than I can repaY. Circs are.complicated, so I'm waiting for the six years to finish when my creditors will eventually give up :-)

IMO then you lose the right to complain.

I think it is very fair that you cannot get interest on the money you should be paying to your creditors but that you choose to hide from them.

Uhm. Thanks for your point of view. However, I'm not hiding anything from anyone. I have invited my creditors to take.me to court yet they persist with letters and phone calls.

    :-)

Why don't you just pay your debts like the rest of us do.

I pay all my priority debts.
I don't get any benefits like most of you do. Therfor, under my circs, I choose not to pay the others. I must add that I do pay them off once the creditors offer to settle for a low amount.

Anyway, thank you to the poster who mentioned virgin. Looks feasible for me. Cheers!
