Current Account without credit check

Are there any good current accounts that don't do a credit check on application?
I just need to move away from Barclays to an account that gives me a debit card and mobile banking. If it has an attractive interest rate, that would be great.

Thank you

Yes, and they're relatively strict for their 123 account I understand.

If they do, it's a fast process - last year when I applied online for a 1-2-3 account I immediately received an email acknowledging my application, then literally one second later came the email saying that my application was successful. It's the first UK bank account that I opened.
    Evolution, not revolution

Sounds like you need a Basic Bank Account. They tend not to be as basic as the name suggests. Generally you get a debit card and can set up things such as Direct Debits and Standing Orders on these accounts.

And there's Ffrees, but they charge for withdrawls from cashmachines and you should bear this information in mind, which is at the bottom of pages on their website:
Ffrees Accounts are not covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. Ffrees ensures that any funds received by you are held in a segregated account so that in the unlikely event that Contis Financial Services Ltd. becomes insolvent your funds will be protected against claims made by creditors.

All accounts are ID checked. Basic Bank Accounts are often credit checked, but having bad credit doesn't mean your application will be automatically rejected. Ffrees doesn't perform a credit check.

I've had another look on the internet and it seems that there is no way that people with bad credit can get a current account that pays in-credit interest.
    I think it's a bit unfair.

That's the way it is unfortunately with current accounts - they are a credit product which carry credit checks even if all you'd want to use them for is the interest. Of course historically you wouldn't have this problem as you would normally just open a savings account but we're in peculiar times.

The Virgin Money Essential Account is a basic account and pays 1% interest on balances.

Really good basic account it seems.

You can do better on some savings accounts than that though.

The OP wants a CURRENT ACCOUNT that pays interest. Of course savings accounts will pay more than basic bank accounts.
