Unable to cancel Sky contract after selling house

Hi All,
I hope you are well.
I have recently sold my house in Essex to move into shared accommodation in London and need to cancel my sky service as the house I have moved into already has broadband (landlord works for BT).
I contacted Sky to inform them that I would need to cancel my Sky Broadband and Telephone service as I have sold my house and am moving into a house where it is not needed.
Sky have turned around and said that they cannot cancel it because I am signed in to a 12 month contract and that I will have to wait till November 2015 before they can cancel it.
Is there anything I can do to get this service cancelled without me having to pay for x amount of months for something that I will not be using? Or am I stuck in Skys stupid contract?
Your advices would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

If the contract was stupid, why did you agree to it in the first place?
In answer to your question, yes you can cancel it, but you will have to pay the reminder of the monthly cost x months left.
You agreed to a 12 month (legally binding) contract, your obligation isn't removed because your circumstances have changed I'm afraid.
Your only option here is to pay it off, or transfer the service to another property (which you have already explained isn't an option), unless you choose not to pay, then your credit rating will be trashed.
This applies to all contracts, personally I'd pay it off and take it as a lesson learned to consider very carefully before signing anymore in future.0 -
What he said. The only legal ways out without paying the ETC are death or bankruptcy. 'Moving house' doesn't count.
PS: it's not Sky's 'stupid contract', it's a joint 'stupid contract'-it takes two parties to form a contract. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Just an update. After calling sky for a second time after my initial call to cancel I was put through to the cancellation team who said that they could cancel but I would have to pay a cancellation fee which worked out to be substantially cheaper than the cost of continuing to pay till the contract expired. As you could guess I was frustrated when writing the original post so thanks for your pointless comment macman and thanks 19lottie82 for the options0
