My son also has ASD - the local council provided transportation. Have you spoken to the transport department at your local council ?
I'm sorry but you really do need to inform yourself better rather than (presumably) take what you ex says as fact !I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Whilst I fully appreciate you don't want the relationship between your son and his father to break down completely -I would question the wisdom of daily contact as you've mentioned he is abusive to your son. Now you've mentioned his ASD and other issues this is even more relevant.
As the nearest suitable school your son will be entitled to daily transportation (which is also benefical for him as giving him a level of indepedence ) which will be either a place on a minibus or a taxi depending on the number of children in your area needing transport.
Moneywise child tax credits include a disabled element , child support paid correctly as well as your earnings (and possibly DLA/PIP) should mean you don't need to be dependant on your ex paying for school dinners .
You left presumably in part to stop him controlling your lives -yet a year down the line he still has more control on your daily lives than it appears is appropriate.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
