Now thinking it might be more cost effective to have a decent printer with genuine ink, rather than replacing the compatible ones at the rate I seem to be doing.

Get yourself a decent laser printer. You have to spend a lot more for a set of toner cartridges, but they will last a lot longer (except the starter cartridges that usually come with them printer).

Take a look at the IJT Direct offers. Note particularly that toner cartridge capacity is quoted in thousands of pages. Obviously actual results will depend on the density of print on your pages.

Colour lasers aren't that expensive these days. I have an ancient (over 10 years old) Samsung which has been quite happy with toner refills. You may need to trawl through a few reviews for more modern ones - 'usual suspects' HP Samsung, Brother seem to get decent reviews.

One child gets a print allowance, 6th form, but often the printers are out of order so the few that do work are in high demand.
Fine art and photography subjects both require colour print option so need to consider my printer choice carefully.

Although colour lasers produce good prints they are not photo quality. The Canon Pixma MG5550 inkjet from IJT Direct sounds like it could be good value. It is reviewed here and I suggest you look at the reviews for the other "free" printers from IJT direct as well to see if any would suit you.

I'd imagine coursework could be uploaded to one of her school accounts virtually, and the school could print it, if they indeed need a print version of it. (VLE accounts and sites like 'Show My Homework' usually have this facility for pupils). Alternatively, take it in on a pen drive or email it to the member of staff concerned - though there may be tech issues with both of these, as compatibility can be a problem.

This is not something schools can require parents to pay for, and need to help pupils resolve, as they come from all kinds of backgrounds and financial capacity must not be an issue which hinders prospects of success.

I'd also ask what the arrangements were in respect of getting past papers printed off, myself - and ask for staff to direct you to the papers in some sort of descending order to relevance/significance. 150 sheets sounds like an awful lot to me - is she really going to tackle them all???
Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!

Must say, past papers were something we used to just photocopy many years back, the school had a supply and it cost 5p/sheet - low tech possibility for you?

The print quality doesn't have to be high speck as the pictures are generally for reference, sampling styles etc.
She has taken them in on pen drive, camera card but school pc wiped them. Not compatible I guess.

Will look at the link above, thanks.

It would be surprising if they weren't compatible and worrying if a school PC was destroying course work. Does she still have copies?

Let me know if you need any pictures recovered.
