New Printer for printing practice papers

Morning all!
My old Epson starting to play up and looking for a new printer.
This is mainly used at the minute for printing off practice exam papers for my daughter . So looking at printing maybe 150+ pages in b&w off at the time.
Cant find anywhere that points to which printer would be cheapest ink wise for this kind of job.
WIll be used for printing off some photo course work but this would be more occasional compared to the practice papers.

Have used compatible cartiridges in my old Epson and it went through a full set of each colour printing off about 120 sheets last night. Even though black and white all colours ran out even though cartridges obviously had plenty of ink left in on shaking.

Now thinking it might be more cost effective to have a decent printer with genuine ink, rather than replacing the compatible ones at the rate I seem to be doing.

Forget inkjets, get a budget mono laser printer such as a Samsung, from around £60. It'll be faster and very much cheaper for that kind of output.

WIll it also allow kids to print off coursework with coloured photos ?

A mono printer cannot print in colour.

ANy other suggestions ?

I too need a new printer for the childrens school work.
Currently have a HP 310 PSC but hates compatable inks, refuses to print or when it does, streaky, useless prints.

Watching for any suitable suggestions.

the schools really have us on this one hogshead!! - we want our children to do well and when they say print off all these practice papers of course we are going to do it. They are saving themselves a fortune.

Obviously it will print the photos but they'll be b/w too. If that's an issue, and if the majority of your printing will still be b/w, consider using the laser but print the colour pages on a cheap inkjet. I'm pretty sure it's what I will do when I next buy a printer.

Think of some expensive liquids - essential oils, petrol, perfume, Cristal champagne, blood plasma, unicorn tears... Inkjet printers make all of the above seem good value as the pricing model is positively abusive.

The school will have a colour printer for when colour printing really is mandatory, or you can go to Ryman, printing.com, minuteman, etc who will happily print colour for you.

Or if you insist on having a colour printer at home, at least set it up to use 'draft mode' by default - pale grey speckles instead of crisp black contrast isn't a big deal for a single-use exam paper.

~post 3 mentions that they have also coursework to print off with colour photos usually included. Sorry !

Lots to think about - thanks all. But more research for right one required I think !
