I met my now fiance online! You do have to wade through a few weirdos, and even take a chance on some guys who you aren't 100% sure of. Messaging is just not the same as in person, someone can be fab over text but you meet them and there is no spark whatsoever. On the other hand they can be a bit odd or bland over messaging but you get on fantastically in person.

If you're going to do it just go for it, put yourself out there (safely), take the initiative in messaging, have fun with dates and be yourself.

I did read a really depressing statistic about online dating, that as women get older the age range they go for gets equivalently older. However men of whatever age still want to date a woman aged around 21-25. Ugh.
    Savings target: £25000/£25000

I think its a numbers game, I found Plenty of Fish had far more members and was free. It is quite time consuming and I would advise to giving lots of nice full length photos and a good honest profile.

Avoid chatting for ages and just meet up and move on.

^^^^ This , from contact is made the 2 weeks to meet counter starts  (whatever anyone on there is looking for, they all begin with a meeting of some sort).

Although the OP may have had a friend check over the profile, it could be a case of 2 bad judgements, that is not to say the OP has done anything wrong though.
After a while of looking at the profiles, I notice the majority are playing the same tired record and it appears they are looking for someone to fill a gap (financially and family wise) also answers like 'prefer not to say' are not good and off putting.
Although the OP maybe old fashioned, we are in a modern world, so don't be shy on sending the 1st message either, but like others have mentioned watchout for the scammers players and losers.

Don't expect long essays as a 1st message, the person sending them may have sent out lots of messages in the past and not had a reply from the majority.
As for pictures have a mixture of going out and plain Jane, ones with the children on suggest they are looking for a replacement father

Thanks everyone. I have tried to be a bit more proactive this week and actually started to wink at people (shock horror!) and favourite them.

There just doesn't seem to be anyone in my age range who I like the look of who doesn't live miles away. I guess I will have to look further afield....
