Anyone lost money

I remember when I was a wee nipper and my dad told me to go up to the counter at McDonalds for a happy meal (I was so young I was still shorter than the counter). Somewhere between the table and the counter I lost the £20 he gave to me, I still feel guilty to this day.0

I had my purse delivered to my door last year by someone who had found it on the street - it had obviously fallen out of my bag
I also found over £300 in a cash machine. Branch was closed and it was actually a nightmare trying to return it (I had the slip) as the head office simply CBA. The local branch eventually put me in touch with the owner, however.
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
About 10 years ago, when i was really struggling with money, I did my usual week-end food shopping and for some reason which I never got to the bottom of, I decided to get the cash out (£70) rather than pay with my card. I'd never done that before.
I did my shopping, and as I went to pay, I realised that the cash wasn't there. I had a sudden flash memory of taking the card out of the cash machine but not the cash. I cried the entire way home!
The only positive thing is that I've never done it again since!0 -
£200 went flying out of my bike jacket last night when on a urgent run down to London to deliver documents. Luckily for me a police officer picked it up when he saw it land in the road and gave it back to me when I went back for it absolutely sh*tting myself because I thought it was gone forever and my bike was about to run out of fuel too!
other than that no, I usually just pay by card. Unless I HAVE To for work I never ever ever carry cash because I know how clumsy I can be and how easily I loose things. No man is your friend, No man is your enemy. Every man is your teacher.

it may not be your fault OP - many thieves hang around cashpoints just watching for someone to put the money straight into a handbag or in back pocket - then they DIP into it and they are gone before you realise anything is amiss.
Its one reason why I always choose a bag with a zip closure (and preferably a flap over that), and make sure my hand is on the bag or its tucked under my arm.0 -
No but I found £300 on the floor!0

well if its any consolation I, for some unknown reason, decided to shred two theatre tickets and keep the address label yesterday.
Luckily the performance is in a really small theatre and they are willing to reprint them for me.0 -
I've only ever lost my purse once and that was while travelling alone in Australia during my first week. I put my purse down on the bar and didn't pick it up again (which is most unlike me and something I've never done since!).
I lost all of my cash, all of my bank cards, driving license and student ID. I literally had no money left. Someone lent me $50, and various relatives had to transfer money across to me then I paid them back when I got home with the savings in my account I had been unable to access. I also had to spend ages on the phone cancelling all my cards.0 -
Thankfully no I haven't but then i did spend the large part of my young life being mugged of money by my parent!
Anyhow i did find a fiver once in a puddle - took it home, dried it out, eventually spent it lol
When it comes to money from cashpoints i'm paranoid. I always look to see who's around, check under the sign at the top for any camera or loose panel at the card slot, cover my hand while typing my pin, then get the money in my wallet before leaving the machine and stuff it into my trouser pocket where i'd feel it being removed if someone tried to pinch it.
I can't afford to loose money. I've never really had disposable cash like my friends so i've always had to be pretty paranoid about making sure i keep it safe.0 -
