Policy Shop cancelled my home insurance!
[Deleted User]
Came back from holidays last night to find my home insurance that I set up from 1st April has been cancelled from monday! And I get to pay £45 admin fees for the privilege.....
Absoultely livid. Reason given - Risk unacceptable due to undisclosed claims. I put them all on the quote but it appears its been missed off the policy documents they sent out when I was away. But I definitely put my claim on there (as well as 4 yrs buildings no claims and 1 yrs contents no claims - why else would I do that?).
And you guess it can't get hold of them today. Engaged permanently.
Cheers Policy Shop for this. I guess now whenever I get insurance I will need to answer yes for had insurance ever been cancelled? I'm betting its now a higher risk for me.....
Really mad....

Your guess and bet are both correct.
So worth trying to get the policy reinstated and the cancellation removed from your record if you can0 -

How badly will a cancelled policy look?

The questions and assumptions usually apply to the policyholder and immediate family residing there.0 -
Assuming you mean The Policy Shop Insurance Services Limited, I suggest you send a complaint to darryl.tovey@insurancefactory.co.uk.
This is the e-mail address given on the Financial Services Register.
If you do that over the weekend, they will have until 1 June to get a response into the post. You can then go to FOS (or sooner if they respond before).
In the meantime, I suggest you go to a broker (not Swinton). You will need to disclose what has happened but if the complaint is upheld, the redress should include putting you back into the position you would otherwise have been in. That would include reimbursing any extra cost and additional premiums and fees - and probably a nominal amount for distress and inconvenience.
We only have your side of the story so we cannot say for certain that it will be upheld.
If you are able to get through by telephone today (I see they are open until 5.00 p.m. on Saturdays) you should make clear that you are making a complaint that they have received it today and the eight weeks to deal with it starts now. Then confirm it by e-mail.0 -

It does have pretty bad consequences. A cancelled policy stays on your record for life and most insurers ask if you have "ever" had a policy cancelled.
Most off the peg and on line insurers refuse to quote if you have this in your history.
So unless you get this reversed you face difficulties and increased premiums (some insurers will ask if you have had "any" policy cancelled meaning problems over other insurances.
Swapping policyholder to your wife won't work as she will be asked if any one to be covered by the policy has had a cancelled policy.0 -

Thing is I know I did this correct but even if I did forget to add one claim it seems a bit harsh that for the rest of my life my insurance premiums are massive because of one mistake.
Surely the wise and sensible thing to do would be to point out my mistake and offer for me to correct the situation by paying the increased premium?0 -

Been trying to get through all day. No luck.
Spoke to another dept who said they were moving so having phone problems. Great.0 -

The quote from broker is "the risk is now unacceptable to your insurers due to undisclosed claims".
Its as if they're saying no way, you look dodgy, not interested thanks. So I don't think I'm going to be able to get them to agree to rescind this. Insurer is Integra.
Policy shop have offered to find an alternative insurer to cover the correct risk but I assume that would mean the cancellation would stay from Integra?
Like I said, whoever is right, this would seem very unfair indeed. One mistake/error and it costs a fortune.0 -
Jeez. Just ran same quote through go compare with tick for cancelled policy. £1200 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
£1000 a year extra for, at worst a simple mistake :-(0
