Hi all,
Just a quick question to gauge opinion. I currently have an Amex everyday cashback card, no annual fee and took advantage of the 5% introductory offer and I have used it for a year to earn a reasonable return.
Now approaching the second year the cashback is tiered so I wont make anything near what I earned in year one.
I have been offered by Barclaycard the cashback card (Amex 1% and Visa 0.5%) with my current rate of 6.8% APR. I was wondering what experiences people have had using these cards and if they have found it any disadvantages?
I am aware they don't offer certain benefits such as purchase cover and extended warranties with new purchases?
Many thanks in advance for any advice.
Kind regards,
Haze.

Had an Initial card for 11 months (£800 to start then £1600 after 4 months and now using an 18 month 0% BT on it) and had a Freedom Rewards card for 4 months (£3000 limit paid in full each month).
Wonder if they'll swap my Freedom card to this bad boy? I didn't think this was open for swapsies lolI spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0 -

I upgraded my Initial to Freedom Rewards and now to Cashback! Sending them a secure message in online banking asking them, they should be able to tell you if you are eligible.0 -

Cashback should be the last thing on your mind if the APR of the card is a consideration, as any interest you pay will dwarf any cashback you might get.0 -
I wonder how long it'll be until Barclaycard follow Cap1 in slashing or axing altogether credit card cashback, citing as the cause, an industry-wide reduction in retailer fees paid?0

I always settle the full balance every month so I am not to worried about the APR. The Amex card I have is 18.9% and settled in full every month which I have netted over £300 over the last 12 months so I'm relaxed about an APR of 6.8%.0 -
Am I right in thinking I should also keep a hold of my Amex with the new transaction charge ruling?0

Especially as the Amex part of this duo is not exempt for three years as it would be if Amex themselves issued it.0 -

This is a misunderstanding that many newsites have mis-posted.
American Express issued cards themselves won't be affected at all by the caps (atleast not directly, they'll have to lower their fees to compete with Visa and MasterCard very slightly) and Third party amex cards won't be affected for atleast 3/4 years (And even then member states have the power not to enforce that rule on them).0
