Car clocked
Comments
-
The garage owner has pretty much admitted to knowing about the car being clocked but is trying to accuse us of knowing too.....and we definitely didn't!
It's nice to see that some people are actually giving me advice, instead of giving me their opinions which I didn't ask for.....so thank you.
I very much doubt I'd use this site again though or recommend it.0 -

I'm sorry to hear you feel that way, but if you post on a public forum anywhere on the internet then you will get opinions. Some people will agree with you and some will disagree. That's the nature of a public forum.
If you want advice and no opinions, then you need to engage a solicitor to help you sort this out. You could send the dealer an LBA for the amount you think you are owed, but bear in mind you will have to prove this in court and show how you arrived at this amount. (That's just my opinion by the way, as I have no legal qualifications

If the AA HPI check showed a discrepancy in the mileage, then i assume your HPI check was a different one, and not AA? Do you still have that HPI check?
A garage selling a car has a duty to check that the cars they are selling are legitimate. This situation could potentially land the garage in a LOT of trouble.
I think I would be pushing the dealer for a refund of whatever over the odds you paid for a car due to the lower mileage, then insist he buys it back from you at the current price of what it is worth with its true mileage.
If he refuses, I would make it very clear you will be contacting trading standards and the police, and maybe mention the case mentioned above about how much it COULD end up costing him.
How much is your car currently worth with its TRUE mileage?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

Here's a quote from the very first page:
A bit further down it says:All info is the opinion of posters – it’s not our view. We have an amazing forum with a huge wealth of helpful info. Yet remember it's open to all, and sometimes messages are posted that are misleading or downright wrong. Most users are helpful but there are always a few bad apples. Don't rely on information being accurate or complete. If you do, it's at your own risk. Please do your own research before acting....this is an open forum, so ordinary forum users should bear in mind anyone can say anything. Just because someone says they're an IFA, broker, electrician, etc and sounds knowledgeable, doesn't mean they ARE one. We obviously can't check that what everyone on the forum says is true. As always, it's essential everyone using the site does their own research.0 -
at the end of the day the dealer can place whatever price tag he wants on the car, who are you or i to say what its worth? to him it maybe worth thousdands to us it maybe worth hundreds. did you not see the mileage when you bought the car hence my comment "you could of walked away from it" also on the link i posted please look at tip number 4 at the top, there are legitimate reasons to change odometers.
i also personally think a difference of £1500 between your car and the other cars on display at the time was down to more than a lack of service history.
for the car to be 2yrs old and have 127k on the clock it would of had to do 173 miles EVERY day for 2yrs.
at 2012 you say it had 69k on the clock that is probably a realistic amount of mileage for say a sales reps car.0 -

Don't be so grumpy.
Oh, hang on....0 -

Could it be that the 127,000 in 2009 was wrong? Maybe it was actually 27,000 and then 53,000 in 2010 was correct.
Who was the previous keeper on the V5?0 -
Find out you mot certificate. It will show mileage history.
If it doesn't go back far enough on the mot certificate, there is a website and a reference on your mot certificate you can check all past mot certificates since 2005 online, those mot certificates will show mileage on each. If there is a period with no mot it's likely it was in trade or off the road at the time and doing very little mileage if any at all.
I did a HPI check on our car when we bought it. It showed a (almost obvious) discrepancy so I checked all mots online since 2006, and it was clear the HPI check was showing wrong from the mot history. Some one had done a typo and put an extra digit in.
If it's done 100k more it is normally obvious from the wear on drivers seat and steering wheel on a high miler.
A tapping engine can happen at any mileage if it's not been serviced properly (no service history, maybe because it's not been serviced)0 -
Where has the 127k come from to be on the HPI check? the car was a 2007 car so wouldnt have required an mot until 2010, was that a change of keeper at the time? It could have been an error.0

I've seen dealers register mileage before. 127k on a 2 year old car is a lot. What car is this? I've seen this kind of mileage on 2 year old vans, but a car doing those kind of mileage is uncommon.
What make is it? Where was it originally registered (first 2 letters of plate is enough)
If you can find the dealer that supplied it new, they may also have serviced it for first few years and may have service history print outs they could provide you.0
