Would you fill in this pond?

Then the next question would have to be, "Why?"
2' to 2' 6" is ample to protect goldfish, south of Novosibirsk. :rotfl:
Mine was only 18" and I never lost any to cold, only herons.
Don't ask me, I merely inherited the thing - rather substantial body of water.
It's quite possible that lack of access has kept frogs away, but there are ponds in the woodland across the road, so that's probably more alluring.
For the record, I kept the statue simply because the ex-wife hated the thing.

I have nothing against ponds per se; my neighbours have one and we've had the most darling toads come into the garden and make a cosy home under some of the wood in our barn.
However, another neighbour had a large pond and a lovely little boy, whom they were worried about allowing to play in the garden due to the pond being there. They (quite rightly in my opinion) filled it in with soil and the contents of our drive which had been dug out; it did us a favour as it used up all the excess soil which we would have had to get rid of and meant that it didn't cost them a fortune buying soil to fill their pond, so we both benefited.
I think the problem with the OP's pond is that it is rather large for the size of the garden and does tend to dominate it. As the house is going to be sold, a turfed area would perhaps appeal to more buyers, especially if they have small children.A cunning plan, Baldrick? Whatever it was, it's got to be better than pretending to be mad; after all, who'd notice another mad person around here?.......Edmund Blackadder.0 -
My son moved into a house with a huge pond, similar to this one. He emptied it (YUCK - the slimey thick gunge after the water had gone was horrid.) The space it created was well worth the hassle and hard work though.0

It's a beautiful pond! Well established with mature plants and, I imaging, life.
It would be a criminal act (philosophically speaking) to get rid of it.
Tidy up around it, and make sure there is access over the sides for wildlife.0 -

Don't worry, I intend to address the balance by building a large pond in the next house - we'll have a much bigger garden.0 -
Most soul destroying task ever, but done!
