The do not disturb sign meant exactly that - no one knocked on my door asking to clean. They probably turned up with a complementary apple core, but saw the DnD sign and walked away.
If you go to Butlins, expect Butlins. The Atlantis was so desirable to you in your original post in the same was it was desirable to all the others who stayed there. TBH, the richer I've seen people, the more rampent I've seen their kids.
Sorry you aren't enjoying your hotel - we all get that experience at times - but feel sad for you as this is the part which will stick with you.
Serves me right for jumping at the Sale promotion when it landed in my inbox! It does look nice in the pix on TA, but it's just not for me!0 -
Mmm did we mention that Dubai was tacky when you were planning your trip?
When the MO gave me a damp room we got a full refund, another room and the hotel car for a complimentary trip to the airport.
Al Maha or Grosvenor House in Dubai- everything else is bling. Butlins is a good description of the JumeriahsJune challenge £100 a day £3161.63 plus £350 vouchers plus £108.37 food/shopping saving
July challenge £50 a day. £ 1682.50/1550
October challenge £100 a day. £385/£31000 -
Ibis budget would have moved you and a full refund within 15 minutes0

There's only the Dubai Creek area that I enjoy.
I can watch the dhows being loaded and unloaded all day long, their amazing cargo, the smells, the hustle and bustle, and wondering where the dhows are sailing to or just arrived from.
Or the flotilla of small abra endlessly crossing the Creek packed with all manner of people and their carry on goods. A precarious business as the abra don't tie-up alongside, so good balance and steady nerve is a must...

And the small market stalls, the colourful souqs that test all your senses.
Anywhere other than the Creek area of Dubaid and Deira don't do much for me. That's the real Dubai. The shopping malls and the oversized beach mega-hotels are boring and could be anywhere in the world sort of places.0 -
I can't believe anyone still goes to Dubai for the shopping! Not even remotely good value.
To be honest, we go to Abu Dhabi now, much nicer place and if we want to go to Dubai its only a few hours up the road.0 -

They've had some good sales on at the moment, way cheaper on Designer gear in Dubai, where should a person go for designer gear to get good value for money Visi?0 -

How about TK Maxx? Sorry, not that interested in "designer gear".
Personally, I don't mind Dubai as long as you go with the right expectations. Yes, it's totally fake and you have to play by their rules but it's pretty impressive place for a stopover. Still prefer Bangkok though!0 -
I HATE TK Maxx!
When I say designer I want to buy Hermes, Balenciaga, Dior, Chanel et al!0 -

I don't think it's remotely impressive - unless generic looking malls and hotels a little bit bigger than other places particularly attracts you!0
