Why Do Recruitment Companies...

How come it makes such a big difference saying the same things to a candidate face to face as with a telephone interview??. They will be answering your same questions won't they?
I'd say it's sensible to speak to a job candidate face-to-face if the job involves this (as long as the recruitment consultant hasn;t alreadu spoken to the candidate fac-to-face about an earlier job!).0 -

If a recruitment consultant is generally arranging it for this reason, then that is fine.
Problem is, I think a lot of recruitment consultants are not doing it for legitimate reasons.0 -

And this is exactly my issue and anger towards them. I do not want to do and meet a recruiter to then realise there is no interview for the job we were just talking about. Imagine doing this for 10 individual recruitment companies? Anyone with a right mind will build up distain because nothing materialised previously...0 -
Its all coming out now... Most of the things said in this thread ive had rough ideas about... Im definitely just going to outright say NO i cannot make it.
to be honest, why cant they fill out my information over the phone whilst im speaking to them? I mean logically...
But yeah thats definitely true
Oh no!! The truths out, we get paid commission every time you fill in a form...!
Are you a complete idiot..?? haha0 -

Why do you think they're doing it? You think they get commission on meeting candidates? They don't.0 -
I was going to start my own thread on agencys but if its ok I,ll jump on to here and ask your opinions if that's ok.?
I left my job in January and started to actively look for full time work.
I walked past a well know agency in the city centre and noticed a advert for a vacancy which was right up my street so I went inside, had a interview with one of the girls, made a appointment to go in again with different forms of id etc......plus a cheque for £44 which they said was for clearance checks.
When I went in next time I spent over an hour there filling tons of paperwork in,they told me the vacancy I wanted was a on going vacancy and they were always searching for candidates.
Now bearing in mind this is the first time I have had any dealings with agencies.
So I waited for 8 weeks while the background checks were done, every so often they would ring me up telling how far the process was going so that gave me faith that once the checks get back to them they would contact me regarding the job I wanted.
Last week they rang me and told me my name is on this vacancy that I wanted and everything should be sorted by the end of April.
This morning they rang me offering me a office vacancy, something a million miles away from the job I applied for,I explained that I have been told my name is on a different vacancy, the one I went into their offices and applied for.
I was then told there is no vacancys for that job(even though its still on their website and on a advert on the front of their office window)
She then said the job is now on hold and they wont know if its going to be available until the general election is over???
As I have mentioned this is my first dealings with agencys,I feel they have wasted my time for over 2 months and Im now £44 out of pocket,is this how agencys behave??sorry its such a long winded post.0 -

I know - I have had this happen to me plenty of times too.
A job is advertised. You apply online. The recruitment consultant phones you up and asks you to go in and see them.
You go there and the job doesn't exist.
I much prefer to apply to a company directly for work. Unfortunately, you have to go through agencies for most advertised jobs nowadays.
Even though it must be a real waste of money for companies in these supposedly hard financial times for them.0 -

Think about this, really stop what you're doing and think for a second... if this super free software existed... IT WOULDN'T BE FREE YOU IMBECILE...
If it existed, then recuiters wouldn't exist, a multi billion pound industry would grind to a halt, if only you'd share a link to this amazing software you can change the world!
Haha, get a grip. £5,400 is far too cheap, buy cheap, buy twice.
£5400 is nothing compared to hiring the wrong candidate.
And why would a recruitment consultant be able to do this better than the company themselves?
Saving themselves a lot of money in the process too.0 -

It is fine if there is a real job available. It makes sense to me for a recruitment consultant to meet up with the person applying for the job (such as they would meet up with the company looking for the employee).
Unethical if there isn't a job available, in my opinion.0 -

I believe it is illegal for recruitment agencies to charge people that are looking for work.
Perhaps you should be speaking to the CAB or Trading Standards about this?0
