Whilst it is the lodger's landlord's home, frequently wandering into the lodger's room uninvited sounds a bit intrusive. Lodgers aren't going to last long if that's the landlord's policy. I get the feeling there are other things going on too.

My advice is to look for somewhere else to live and just grin and bear it until you move out. You could always exact some revenge by using the last of the milk and putting the empty carton back in the fridge, licking the cheese, leaving floaters in the toilet, you get the idea. All very childish though.

As others have said, there's not a lot you can do as a lodger.

Things blew up last night but hopefully, if you do have to stay for another three weeks rather than leaving immediately, it won't be as tense.

I was in the same situation when I had a lodger.., she just blew up at me out of the blue and she asked for her month's rent back.., but it was already spent (going towards the flat's rent) so I couldn't oblige. But I made a point of being civil whenever we happened to meet in the hallway. She was the last lodger I had though! But I wouldn't have dreamed of going into her room whether she was there or not.

    Hey Guys,

I've read all the replies and wanted to respond and give you an update.

The deposit was actually to be used as the last months rent, which I gave my notice for a few weeks ago meaning I didn't have to give her any money this month.

    To update...

I spent a couple nights at my brothers place to let things cool down. On return she knocks on my door and tells me to open my window. This was a clear attempt to assert her authority over me again. I politely refused as I would be cold.

She then entered my room and opened the window herself, I told her I would shut it once she left and she began screaming at me, calling me everything under the sun.

She then called the owner of the flat, telling him that I'm an alcoholic and stay up on dating sites all night, which is completely untrue and even irrelevant. After the phone call, she tells me that he will come and chuck me out?

She's just gone out and I noticed all the electric is off, and the hot water so I can't have a shower. - I have no idea how to get it back on myself.

I really need some advice on how to handle this, is she able to get away with this behavior??

P.S. I offered to leave tomorrow if she gives me 50% of my deposit back, to which she refused.

So where is the electricity meter? Switch it back on.

Next time she want the window open, open it and then close five minutes later.

In the mean-time speak to Shelter.

Get a door wedge, that will stop her barging into your room whilst your there at least. She seems unhinged but it's your call, cut your losses and move out or hold out until the end of the month. I vote for the former.

I had a look but everything was already switched on, she turned it off somewhere else.

Do I have any legal rights regarding the hot water and electricity?

Yeah I might have to get something to keep her out while I'm here but not sure If I'm legally allowed to do so.

I've offered a compromise of half the money back and she refused so I've decided to stay the full month. Even though it may be hard, I can't allow her to get away with this.

What on earth?! Why was she so insistent on the window being opened?

She doesn't want condensation on them.

I wouldn't mind but there's never condensation on them because I frequently open the window.
