Halifax account & paying CC bill.

I am with the Halifax and have their credit card also. When i log into my account it shows the balances of all my accounts, current account, ISA's and my credit card.

Just logged in and spotted my credit card has not been paid. I normally check the statement 2 days after its due date and then set the payment to come out 2 weeks before its due.

Luckily its not due until the 17th, When i check the payment date on the page where you select how much and when to pay it says N/A. I wonder if i set the payment date to Friday 3rd not realising it was a bank holiday?

Luckily i have plenty of time left to make the payment and also have a DD for the minimum payment just in case.

The issue is that i cannot see any way of checking that i have the payment set to go out. Am i missing it somewhere?

Anyone else use Halifax online banking?

Thanks.

The Halifax credit card site has been a mess lately. I have to keep phoning them to get any details. I'm afraid I pay the bill from my Santander account (which shows payments set up but not yet paid) so I can't help with that bit.
I've had enough of Halifax, I'm leaving them once I get all my money out.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

If you are paying by SO, or future dated FP, and the payment date falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment will not happen until the next working day, which is now tomorrow (only known exception is Tescos who pay on the date you ask them to pay). I don't know whether CC firms expect payments to arrive outside working days - best to check with your card provider.

If you pay by DD, it will be the responsibility of the card provider to request the money from your bank at the right time, so you don't need to worry if the money gets taken later than expected.

Out of interest, why are you paying on the 3rd when the payment isn't due until the 17th?

OK, you may be correct on future dated FPs. I don't have experience myself with them.
EDIT: seems Halifax don't make Future Dated FPs every day: http://www.halifax.co.uk/onlinebankinghelp/moving-money/#process. They might not let you select date on which they don't process payments.

Would be interesting to hear from forgotmyname how the payment instruction was made.

I just click pay my bill in the accounts section, Choose the date to pay and thats it.

I pay early to ensure i always pay it on time and like now i still have time in case something went wrong with the system.

Im pretty sure i clicked pay it now. I presume it will be showing tomorrow morning if it did select Friday 3rd.

The shopping we did on Saturday is not showing on the CC balance yet so hoping its that and something to watch for in future.

Colsten the money is in the current account making no interest so no issue paying it several weeks early.

EDIT: just checked and my current account statement says BP (bill payment).

This sounds like what they call an "Online" payment and "will normally be credited to your account within 2 hours."

    http://www.halifax.co.uk/creditcards/help-guidance/existing-customers/?pagetabs=1

There is an explanation of how they process the various payment methods: http://www.halifax.co.uk/onlinebankinghelp/moving-money/#process

Though this doesn't cover "online" payments to their CC, and it doesn't quite fit with the 2 hours "normal" crediting. I'd call them and ask.

I set the payment in advance though. So quite possible that i put Friday the 3rd.

Being a Bank Holiday could have been an issue, But it is silly that it doesnt tell me i have a payment waiting to be made.

The only thing i noticed is that there is no pay by date when i actually goto the payment page. Pretty sure it normally gives the pay by date. I will make a note of that next time.

If it doesnt appear tomorrow morning i will pay it again. Worst case then is that i will have paid next months before the actual statement.

No, you will have paid twice within this month.

Next month's payment will have to arrive after the new statement has been compiled and before the "payment-due" date. If you fail to make at least the minimum within that time-slot, you will have missed the payment, which means you are likely to end up with a charge and a "missed payment" mark on your credit rating.

I have my Halifax account set to pay the minimum to my 0% cc each month by DD. Although I was originally going to stooze it for the full period, I find my anxiety about debt has led me to start paying it off.

Transferring money by FP from the Halifax current account has been an interesting experience. On a normal day the debit appears instantly in my current account as I would expect it to but the credit takes until the end of the day to appear in the cc account, even though it is an internal transfer. Compare and contrast - payments to non Halifax accounts usually appear in the receiving account instantly or at worst within the 2 hour window!

Oh, and yes, nothing goes anywhere on a bank holiday.

To check if you have set up for a future date, you need to click on the name of the current account you have the payment set up to leave from, this will give you your statement page, which is the first tab of 4 or 5 different tabs, select the next tab across called 'UK and International Payments' and any predated bill payments will be detailed there, showing the date and amount set up for.

Hope it's all gone through now that we are on the next working day.
