I invited family for tea tomorrow, so I made a fruit cake. I've never made one before. It looks okay, only slightly scorched at one end.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

I've been specifically eating things from the freezer to free up some room for some exciting things .... trouble is, I never find exciting things and end up filling it with the usual stuff. I do need more peas and some fish fingers.
It doesn't take many new items to fill it to the brim again though.
Fridge contains some cooked mini sausages, margarine and cheese and the usual sauces and squash drink. That's all that's in there.
I've finished one of the three bags of quorn I had; really enjoyed those meals. But I have been craving cheese baps filled with sausages/onions and fish finger toasties. L**l now sell cheese baps. Cheese baps with fish fingers are nice too
This week I've been out of Pepsi (that I bought for Xmas), bread and spuds. I can't have everything all of the time.... it's just not practical. Bread's nice, but then you have to eat the whole loaf (it's not the same frozen) ... and spuds you have to fancy, they can't be eaten every day.
Mine has peas, corn, green beans, pastry, chicken carcasses (for making chicken stock when I get round to it), some pies I got from the nice pie shop, lamb chops, sausages (meat raffle win), chock ices, ice cubes, strawberry puree (The Boy has been experimenting with making milk shakes at home), pies from the nice pie shop and a couple of freezer blocks for a cool bag/Esky. It also has a gin shaped hole which I plan to fill when I can be bothered. And pies. Don't forget the pies.0 -

You just need more of the above really. It'd be a disaster if you ran out. Do they do a monthly subscription where they send you a box/month?0 -
Happy National Libraries Day for tomorrow! I can't wish you Happy National Libraries Day on National Libraries Day as I will be at work. Not yet but wait until the next time I see them and they will after that (if they know what's good for them).
They make the third best steak and kidney pie in the world after me and Rules restaurant in Covent Garden. It's now almost impossible to get a steak and kidney pie in Australia. I have yet to see a steak and kidney pudding here:mad:. Perhaps I should make one. Not today though. Roast chook is for dinner tonight.0 -
Do they eat offal in Aus? In the US they didn't seem to at all. I struggled to find pate in even the biggest supermarkets. In fact in the US they seemed to have a fantastic selection of surprisingly few foods. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0

Lamb's liver, or lamb's fry as it is called here, is still a common menu item but I don't think I've ever seen anyone under 65 order it.
My BiL's bar sells chicken liver pat! but I think that's because they're urban and edgy.
Black pudding can be bought but generally isn't.
Heart and kidney is sold for dogs to eat.
I've been reading recently about how the number of foods we eat is falling dramatically. Even eating olive oil is becoming unusual across the world. We eat about 5 animals/fish and about 15 fruit and vegetables and for the 6/7ths of the world that is middle income or rich that is 85-90% of what we eat. We are rapidly becoming a world whose only fat/oils consumed are palm oil and butter.
The remaining 1/7th that are genuinely poor eat whatever will grow where they live but that number is shrinking fast.0 -
We went out to dinner at an ex bosses house tonight. lovely company , wine and food. He was my boss 20 years ago and one of the first people to turn up after my stroke and stuck around.
They had also holidayed in Sicily last year, and like us had stayed a few nights at a hotel in Taormina and enjoyed the hotel so much they had changed their holiday plans so that they could fit in a second longer stay.
They asked where we had stayed. No prizes for guessing we had both stayed at the same place. Taormina has many hotels, neither of us had used Tripadvisor, for us it was either michelin italia or venere for them it had been the recommendation of an acquaintance. The special thing about the hotel was the service and unforgettable breakfasts.
Further discussion revealed other coincidences in holiday choices. Now thinking if we should ask them if they would like to try a trip together with us. We used to have some hoidays with friends but the loss of one of them ended that and another couple have changed direction so far that they do not holiday together so would not make a foursome.
Not for every holiday, but for some, I like the dynamic of being away with friends rather than as a simple couple. What do other NP do?
Not sure if shared experiences made us better friends or if being good friends made better experiences, but I miss whatever it was.0 -

Scary!
I'm off to Singapore on the 15th with OH (we've managed to get some tickets to a major event from one of the organisors), although just looked and it's nowhere near.
I thought the two were closer than that💙💛 💔0 -

My favourite sort of holiday is a road trip and I don't think that would work so well as a foursome.0
