I used to have 3 big PCs running as test servers in the study, but I just got fed up with them, especially carrying them on to sites.

More importantly does it have a large perspex window so you can see the wonders inside, fans with leds that change colour depending on their speed and some neon strips that you can set to pulse with the sounds/music the pc is making?

    We have no servers!

Everyone runs their laptops off the modem (that doubles as a router), prints wirelessly from the one printer. Backs up regularly (ish) to the icloud/ external HDD.

What we are missing out on?

    Large perspex window - check
Fans with leds - check (don't think they change colour though)
Neon strips - Nope but the new case does have lighting underneath and behind but they don't pulse.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

We don't have servers either, same with the modem/router, we would print wirelessly to the one printer if that one printer had ink and actually worked and we back up exactly the same.

Youngest wanted me to have an extra, designated broadband put in for him, he got told that if he wanted that, then he could ruddy well pay for it himself! :rotfl:

We still have just the one broadband connection.......

Edit - Feel I must point out that youngest has self funded the entire build himself, it was a point of pride and principle for him that he did it himself. He saved every single penny of his pocket money, sold his own items, did odd jobs and pc repairs for family, asked for money for birthdays and Christmas and put this in the savings and sourced items second hand to complete his build. Since he has built the pc (finished the night before his GCSE exams started), he has then saved up futher money to upgrade items as and when he had enough.

I'm very proud of him doing this, he is very proud of himself for doing it and it gives him a sense of achievment of doing it all himself.

I'm too slow to change. What prompted the change? Can I ask which supplier? :)

I went to e.on with the MSE collective change, uswitch currently have a collective switch with e.on, that is meant to be a good deal if you CBA to do proper research.

    Absolutely nothing ! :)

People have asked me for advice on what to buy in the past, and they seem surprised when I am non-committal.

It's because I am far from typical when it comes to the modern home PC user.

I have moved to virtual servers, because I seek to break them! That's hardly what most people want :)

    Thanks :)

We were supposed to get a preferential deal via DW's work ; but the plan got challenged by the tax people and it dragged on and on and on....I've given up waiting.

We have one pc that has a lot of our media on it (back up of DVDs, music, recorded tv shows, 4TB) that is sort of a server but only via file sharing, I haven't the time to set it up to stream and I'm not sure it has the grunt, it only runs standard windows. We used to run it 24/7 but I decided the cost of that was not worth the hassle saving of waking it from hibernation if I wanted to watch or listen to something.
    I think....

I tried all that some years back. Biggest CPU cooler you could imagine; neon lights; inert fluid cooling.

The light from the box drove me mad after a bit, and I binned the whole lot ! :D

I thought it'd be OK..... I might still get away with it .... but I have a SC monster growing.

I've a small SC and some burgers I bought at the weekend. So, in my infinite wisdom, I popped out for a jar of tomato sauce (spaghetti sauce) and thought that was it ..... in went the spaghetti (whole pack), jar of sauce, burgers cut into chunks and some additional water. Trouble was, by the time I got this far I was too far in to back out ....so had to keep going.

The spaghetti's really growing... it's currently just touching the glass of the lid.

I might get away with it in the end .... but it's HUGE.

Umm - shouldn't you cook the meat much longer than the pasta - in fact best to cook just the meat on its own as hot as possible first, then add the other ingredienats and slow cook then spaghetti at the end?
    I think....

To be honest, all this switching etc of accounts petrifies the life out of me. It's all about decision making and stuff that I am not comfortable with. So I've never switched, because of absolute fear.

Fear of choosing the wrong one.
Fear of doing it too late/early.
Fear of having to then "keep on top of it all" and failing.
    Fear of something going wrong.
    Just fear.
Fear of fear too I guess :)

It is odd that fear of not doing anything is not on your list. :)
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
