Ref closing car boots.
My X5 opens with a button on the key fob and closes with a button on the lid. It would be possible to activate the closure button with a stick. Very low tech but would work for those with low upper arm mobility. There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -
Re FDs... a relative of mine was a set designer in the theatre and his fellow set designers designed the coffin. Not sure whether or not they made it too, but it was certainly possible to spec a highly individual coffin. Sorry you did not find that degree of flexibility at a difficult time kab. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Driving Assessment went well. Cognitively I got 29/30 you need 26 to pass so that was fine. The adaptation I need is a "LOLLIPOP" control to steer with and for indicators. It will take bit of getting used to so I am having half a dozen with a specialist driving instructor. Another small adaptation is a seatbelt extender. I need other stuff but it can be dealt with by a high end spec. Odd but I need a left arm rest so need a car with an integral one or i will have to get one fitted. Not to use my left arm for steering/stalks at all and it got achy and wanted to join in the activity, keeping it supported stopped the ache and reduced the joining in. My licence will be coded to automatic only and specific hand controls.
I bought a car today. Demonstrator B Class merc, lots of bells and whistles over and above the rear view camera/electric handbrake/ gears on a rh stalk. Lumbar support, leather heated seats, sat nav, nice to have. Sun roof & 18" alloys wasted on me. Parkassist may never getused in anger, I have always been able to parallel park and do not do much on street parking. lights and braking do stuff I don't yet understand, and why ambient lighting inside is needed is a mystery
Definitiely spending more than I planned on a spec above what I need but I asked if they would sell it and they agreed and I can have it in days. NP advice about ease of driving has made me feel less embarressed and self indulgent.OH wants me to have what is best for me, saying I have given up a lot this year and deserve something more than the essentials. I have come over all frugal though, or mean. I want it but did not want to spend the money.
No time for OH to test drive it today, so it is conditional on how he feels it drives. Paid a deposit though as I am quite excited to get back on the road. OH test drove BMWs and prefered the grand tourer but that cost more and there are no second hand as only been out a few months. I agreed with hjd about the cabin in the Active Tourer
I expect I will have to wait a few weeks for licence but have a letter today from DVLA to say I am legal to drive. Insurers may not accept that, so insuring could be delayed. Need to book an engineer to fit the Lollipop.
Almost there.
SC - I really liked the Hyundai ix 20 for seating. not sure about reversing camera but right price range. It was 3rd on my shortlist.0 -

There you go. You could use something like this. They have been around a long time. I first set it up here ages ago (feels like it, anyway).
Your router configuration pages have a location to change the setting to use OpenDns.
(*In the interests of balance, I'm confident there are others which do similar jobs)
Thanks, I've now had a chance to see what this offers. I think I am OK for filtering, it is timed access that I want to achieve. ON the BT router I basically chose a device and set the times it can access the internet, the rest of the lan remains accessible at all times.
Edit: Seems I can get an unlocked refurb box that can do what I want for £20...but of course I would prefer a free solution!I think....0 -
Very nice Merc, Spirit, very envious.
I have a Merc and I love the comfort and all the bells and whistles. Mine does not have active park assist, just has the parking sensors. I think with yours you still may need to control the accelerator and brake but the car does the parking steering for you.
Hope it gives you a lot of pleasure and after your most troublesome year I think you deserve that.:)0 -
The arm rest in the Ford Focus is horrible, gets in the way on gear changes. The small one in the new micra is just right. Don't feel bad about bells and whistles spirit the arm rest, parking sensors and cruise control all make driving with ailments that bit easier for me to drive and makes a big difference over longer journey's.When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.0

Good news about the license, Spirit!
My previous small car was like driving a tank. No vavavoom, speed or visibility, but too big to manouvre or park easily.
My new small car wouldn't suit a petrolhead, but it's incredibly fun to drive, like my first ever Nissan micra 20 years ago. And as it's manual and more modern, it's a lot more MSE.
It'll do fine on the narrow country lanes I use to get to work. As for ease of parking, if its footprint was any more compact I could park it inside its own spacious boot! There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Zag, not sure whether I've missed it or not taken it in, but what car did you go for in the end?
Congratulations on passing the test spirit. I'm a big fan of little cars. I have a Yaris at the moment (and a Aurion which rather undermines my position) and had a great Corolla with a 2L engine in it that went like poo off a spade IYSWIM.
Waaay back when 5 of us bought a proper Mini for £20 each which was a fantastic drive. Every time I see a beaten up mini carcass in a scrap yard I think about buying it.0 -

"Free" is available, but it comes at a cost of diy and complexity, and a small amount of risk.

DD-WRT is an open source implementation of firmware for your router.
It gives you a lot of configurability, but remember you might void the warranty on your router. Some people are nervous about flashing devices.
It wasn't originally geared towards the typical domestic user, and I think it still shows.
It's worth a read.
I have books on Linux Firewalls if you really wanted to go into security in depth. It's dull as ditch to read though!0
