I bought my TV from Amazon on black Friday. I wanted a white one for the bedroom as spare room v small and hence done in pastels (if anyone ever wondered what gender I am dh says my attitude to televisions gives it away... Don't care about the make as long as the colour is right)... Anyhoo picked that up for £65 a couple of years back and it has been brilliant.
We have bought quite a lot of Black Friday stuff over years, both here and in US. I do wonder though if the best Amazon stuff will go to Prime members this year, which is why I've held back on using my free trial... Just in case.
ETA... Last years black Fri bargain from Amazon was a Meile vacuum cleaner. I think but am not certain that it was sub £100. It was a good discount but not phenomenal. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? First day back at school today for the Generalissimos. They loved it. It'll be interesting to see how they cope with the transition to high school as we are very much the poor cousins in the area and many (most? all?) of their friends are off to very, very, very posh schools.
How does the Australian school system compare to UK? Particularly the split private/ state. Do they have state grammar schools?DD1 is at new big school and seems to be finding lots of friends with million++ quid houses which even round here are not that common.
Inner Hertfordshire and the price of a house may dictate more when they bought it than whether they have money. Even if they bought recently, it may have left them poor in cash flow terms. With the wealth of choice of decent private schools around, it could well be that all their money is in property rather than disposable.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I think the deals are less good now than when Amazon first started Black Friday in the UK or is it that I just miss all the good ones?
How long have they been doing Black Friday in the UK? I remember getting a cheap laptop in 2010, and a few other things. I've certainly been disappointed with the things coming up these last couple of years. As Viva has said, I wouldn't be surprised to see the best stuff being reserved for Prime members.0 -

I think it was only on amazon for a couple of years, then the idea spread over here.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Black Friday. It was a marketing tool invented in the USA and proved very successful so it crossed the Atlantic
Yes. There's some national holiday they have on the Thursday ... so many people book the Friday off work to make a long weekend... and so the marketing crews jumped on it as an ideal opportunity to start the Xmas Rush.
It took off due to marketing and people being available/off work and looking for things to do.0 -
I had a professional shopper fail today, was asked to do a TV piece on making the most of Black Friday and I had to admit to never having got a Black Friday bargain as I just find it incompatible with working plus I am mostly xmas ready already by then. Do any NP have any good Black Friday tips or mega bargains? I think the deals are less good now than when Amazon first started Black Friday in the UK or is it that I just miss all the good ones?
I can't recall getting anything much online. It's like a bunfight online, let alone inside supermarkets etc.
Last year they extended it to in-store on the high street if you went a-gathering 'secret' vouchers online first.
I was pleased at getting 20% off shops that don't usually discount. Selfridges, Superdry and a couple of other places. Got Xmas presents for DS and erm, me.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I need a dog-proof bin. We've changed the house around and for some godforsaken reason decided to arrange it so the dogs have their own seating area off the kitchen.
Doozerdog thinks its great to raid the bin. I have to empty it when it is half full, but now, with time he can get right into it and then spread the contents and vomit across the floor. He does it on occassion when we are home anyway but it's worse at the moment.
We can't have a pedal as he can use that, can't have one that you 'clickclack' as that is what we have and he just headbutts it and it opens.
I don't want one where you have to lift up the lid yourself as I don't want germs from hands all over the handle.
I did have it in a cupboard but the tumble drier is there now.
Am I doomed?Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
