When I lived in Nikksterville many moons ago, I got to know someone whose parents had moved far far north to HAMISHtown and when he went to visit them he used to buy cheap cars there and drive them south, and did this many times a year and made a tidy sum.

I haven't walked 500 miles and then walked 500 more, but have after yesterday have just driven that distance to sell our old car & get our next car, which is tiny but great.

For a good second-hand car, managed to save £1k which is not to be sneezed at.
A few years ago I knew a nice young man who bought cars in a southern major port at an auction, then drove them over to Ireland (via Holyhead) to sell them. He was making £1/week or so it seemed, for what was 3 days/week away from home. At weekends he played poker.... usually winning.

That must take some level of knowledge, to be able to spot the good from the bad. If it were me I'd end up overspending on a dog that didn't make it out of the car park!

There was nearly a family row when a brother-in-law was selling his car in London and father-in-law, in Northern town, was looking for a car to replace what turned out to be a cut-and-shut. FIL valued BIL's car at far less than BIL wanted for it, so the deal never happened. Instead FIL continued to drive this unsafe car for another year.

Didn't know they were still legal on the roads. Wasn't there a danger of the side car detaching and travelling off in a different direction with no brake? Or was that a comedy sketch?

That's just a comedy sketch. They are said to be much harder to ride than an ordinary bike, though.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

When you describe that I keep picturing Benny Hill or the Last of the Summer Wine crew. Got to be a comedy sketch.

It was a modern-looking sidecar with a child in it. Considering I drive past motorcyclists with children as pillion passengers, it looked like a much safer option.

I'd be far too scared to use either method (but I can't ride a motorbike anyway).

There's a code for £15 off a £30 spend at Molton Brown and free delivery if anyone has people that might like that sort of thing as a Christmas gift.

Just got two of SIL's favourite handwash for about half price.

It definitely happened in On the Buses. Olive was in the sidecar and Arthur riding the bike.

IIRC that was one of those comedies where outdoor scenes were as rare as hens teeth anyway, so it should have stuck in my memory.:D

My non drinking youngest son, you know the one who is so anti drinking because he doesn't believe we should aspire to an artificially altered brain or state, is suffering from a hang over this morning....he went to a coming out as transgender party last night and threw caution to the wind.

Apparently when drunk, he is 'normal', he loses his autistic traits and has a sense of humour most people would die for! He is also not a staggering around drunk...he just becomes like a normal sober person.

Playing havoc with his medication today though....
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

The whole Rugby world cup has been a disappointment for me, bar the Japan victory over South Africa.

That gave me hope that there would be some change from the old guard, but alas it looks unlikely.

It might be an Aussie/NZ final where all the punditry talk on the telly is about technical competence, but no real passion from here because the interest has gone out of it.
