Good on you CKhalvashi. Supporting unfashionable causes is important: 'everyone' gives money to the RSPCA and Oxfam.
I give to Alzheimer's, advocacy for children in care and the homeless. Now I'm working part-time once I have resolved some personal issues I want to start doing some volunteering to help homeless people.
There were some figures kicking about over a decade ago which suggested the amount spent on research on disease per sufferer in the UK was almost £1500 for HIV, £150 for CHD and only £11 for Alzheimers. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Have been watching a series on Sky about what it's like to be a billionaire. Tonight it was about security.I don't think I'd like to be a billionaire who USA constant target of organised crime and feeling unable to trust anyone. It came across as extremely removed from reality for many.
The end part was about philanthropy and how America has driven the growth if philanthropic billionaires looking to give away50% of their wealth. Even if philanthropic billionaires aren't the focus, one fact I heard and had to write down was that the average billionaire leaves $100m to philanthropic causes.
I may have to take a more benign view of non doms now.
I was home but falling asleep. I spent the day in London yesterday.today I am wrecked. We're busy but I might take today off being on holiday because I am quite sore and I think I might have !!!!!!ed my knee yesterday doing too much and not resting enough.
Remember that lots of wealthy people support things anonymously here too. You here it less now, but you might remember we used to here things on the news about medical cases for unnamed children.....for which unnamed donors often stepped in.0 -
Hope you had a lovely day lir :T
Enjoy your holiday SC. I think St Lucia looks gorgeous.
Maggie thanks for the lovely photos, especially the primroses. I love them and my neighbour gave me some last yeat, but the poor things kept being either dug up or completely buried by the neighbourhood cats and foxes, and none of them have come up this year except one I'd bought at B & Q! Actually I'd bought two, and the other one was in a different part of the garden and got eaten by insects. Well, by something.
I've just been re-potting a pansy plant the DGCs gave me for Mother's Day. I want to plant it out but it's always been indoors, so atm I'm putting it out of doors during the day. I'd hope to get away without having to re-pot it, but the poor thing was pot-bound so I'm glad I did.0 -

At the time, in the UK CHD was the most common cause of death ( death rate of over 100,000 per year) and Alzheimers the fourth most common. HIV was pretty rare but also quite a high-profile disease. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Just back from the meeting.
Negotiated initial terms, threw a cup of coffee over the client (purely accidental) and just awaiting legal docs before we can continue.
I think apart from the coffee incident, today went rather well💙💛 💔0 -

Ah the old throw coffee over a client trick, always secures the deal:rotfl:
Most of my charity stuff is animals, with a bit to Marie Curie and Alzheimers, the latter for obvious reasons. When it was easier to leave dogs at home, I used to volunteer transport for small local dog charities - that's a brutal world to be in, in terms of the sheer numbers of unwanted dogs, the shoestring finances and so many getting put down. I was never sure if I was contributing to the problem or helping really.0 -

I can't just go to sleep. I have to wait until my body passes out.
Downside to this is I'm also a devil to get up in the morning - I'll happily lie there for hours. Which then means I'm not tired in the evening, which leads to...
Not exactly selling myself here, am I ladies?;)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
PS I wasn't online last night, as I was having to work til 7, having agreed to stay late for an appointment who never showed up.
Annoyingly, I have to work late tonight as well.
I'm rarely on in the evening anyways! It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
As a complete & utter aside, after spending over 4 years despairing at no jobs/progression, I applied for a decent looking job last week. Sideways step, but better circs than I'm in.
The same place (I've applied to) has now advertised another job that is pretty much made for me. Like buses these things! I'm just checking emails daily to see if I've got an interview. Which raises a question - how long does one wait after the closing date to ask if they've shortlisted? It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0
