We hired a skip recently for some building work, and I ended up throwing some brand new ones in there to get rid of them.

A charity shop would have been grateful for them.

Not sure they would. Our local charity shop is refusing books and records. I know someone who helps out at a charity shop, and they have a skip for soft toys etc.
You're only young once, but you can be immature forever :D

    Well, that's ridiculous.

Oxfam take just about anything - inc. soft toys.

There's stuff they won't take certainly, like electricals and medical equipment, but as someone who has been around their national hub in the north of England (it's massive) I can tell you NOTHING is wasted.

I would love to believe that, but my local charity shops are becoming more choosey and there are items that they are no longer interested in.

I am having to take more and more items to the tip as the charity shops won't take them.

That's mainly due to having not enough room for storage, or having too much of one thing. My local British Heart Foundation shop has too many books, but I found the Arthritis Research shop a few doors down wanted them. I wish when shops have too much stock they would pass it on to those that don't.

Could advertise on a local Facebook adverts page if you have an account?

Then my Oxfam must be unique then. I take a lot there and they allow me to pull my car up to a back loading door, where they have the big skips full to the brim of things they don't want. On any day they are full of mainly books and records , but also clothes toys, lots of stuffed toys . They aren't there to be sent elsewhere as the skips are often open to,the elements so the stuff inside is ruined.

When I had small furniture to donate (side tables, coffee table and a phone stand) they wouldn't take it as they said it would more than likely be dumped due to lack of room and they thought it would be a waste. They told me to take it to the hospice shop ocally who had a dedicated furniture shop.

Anything that can't be used is sent to a green energy plant to be incinerated to produce energy - nothing goes to landfill.
