water damaged D500 - What can i do

I have just got a new contract with Vodafone, had it for about 3 weeks now and the other day i got caught out in the rain. My phone was in my pocket but it rained that much that when i got home water had soaked thru my jeans and the phone didnt work.

I dried it out and basically the screen looks blotchy - still ok but you can see water drops behind it. The battery only lasts about 4 hours on a full charge, and will loose its charge compleltly if you leave it. Also things like bluetooth and IR no longer work, which i used to use quite alot. Other than that the phone seems to be ok, can ring an txt an picture etc.

Is thier anything i can do, the warrenty says its not covered for acts of god. Will vodafone do anything if i give them a ring?

Try leaving it to dry for a bit longer, like in the airing cup[board

... and take the battery out straight away - chance of a short circuit, which is probably why it's going flat so fast - take the whole phone to bits as much as possible to help it dry out faster

it being 3 wks old, did you not take out insurance (or the first 3 months are free with a lot of new ocntrcts) , its NOT act of god if it was raining and in your pocket! or just 'bend the truth' and said it fell out of your pocket into a puddle etc etc and claim the insurance - that IS what the insurance is for ... :o

it will not be covered for liquid damage unless it is specified on the contract, this is the most common cause of mobiles going faulty.
the only way you may be able to get this fixed is to have it stripped down and ultrasonic cleaned, although this is not guarrenteed to work. even if you dry it out and it seems to work it will still be corroding inside and will prob go faulty again later. (the lcd blotches will remain as this cannot be ultrasonic cleaned)

get a new screen, some are about a fiver or so on ebay and if u feel upto it replace urself but if not take to a local phone shop, shouldnt cost too much on labour.

My old T68i got totally drenched at Thorpe Park last monday, water behind the screen, keypad going bananas.. I thought it was game over. But 3 days later, its fully dry, screen looks fine and all working again. So just give it time!

i have dropped my phone in the same horse-trough twice now! each time I took the baterry and sim card out, dried it out with the hairdryer on cool, then out it in the airing cupboard overnight, tried it next morning, didn't work, put it back in airing cupboard for another few hours, and it worked fine. Don't suppose I could do that too often though. I now have it on a thingy round my neck when I working!!!

well phoned up vodafone who said they would fix it no problems, wouldnt cost a thing. Explained exaclty wot happened and that i didnt have insurance etc - was told no problem, jus take it in to a vodafone shop an it will be fixed.

My mum took it in an was told that was a load of rubbish, an they wouldnt do anything. Even when she kicked up a fuss.

Ordered a new battery of ebay which will hopefully fix the battery problem. Can live with the screen, its not the end of the world. Jus the bluetooth etc im a little anoyed about.
