New employer has too many rules, not comfortable, need Advice

    One has an army of lego mini figures around his workstation. :D, perhaps I should do a risk assessment to discover if a small yellow piece of lego could attract rodents or break expensive IT kit?

    All I ask of them dress wise is that they are suited and booted for client visits, or adopt the dress code if they are working on client site.

    The ceramic cup rule of OP's new employer jogged a memory of an old employer where one programmer threw a china mug at another during a heated argument (it was a narrow miss, dangerous but no-one got dismissed). Maybe that's why they have the rule! But over the years I've seen loads of drinks spillages in the IT dept. In the days of desktop tower computers and separate keyboards that wasn't a big issue, nowadays with high end laptops around, it is. I keep my drink on a faraway part of the desk. I think staff should not be discouraged from drinking water regularly during the working day.

    I notice in the office that women are allowed to wear a much wider variety of clothing, even quite skimpy in summer, while men seem to be under pressure to dress more conservatively.

    What a shocker. A workplace with rules and a hierarchy. I feel for the OP's employer. Canvasing opinions about the MD and workplace rules in the first two weeks in the job spells trouble to me.

    Would you be as relaxed if the yellow piece of Lego was substituted for a mug of coffee. Spilled coffee mugs and pc's tend not to mix well.

    Why would an employer ban jeans? Because that gives staff the chance to wear them falling off their arze, large muffin top bulging over them, sprayed on looky likey jeans jeggings, and the company is successful with nary a pair of jeans in sight.
    Dunno why people would want to look like a builder's labourer when they work in an office.

    Edit..I estimate in my lifetime I have probably had about 30 interviews in the type of environment I work in which is clerical/administrative. I have only been shown around the building and my new potential working environment at around a 1/4 of those interviews attended. It is surely beneficial for the candidate to have a look around at what they might be letting themselves in for. it seems they don't want to do that but are quite prepared to ask me that if I was a animal which animal would I be?

    Surely it depends, if its for a retail outlet then its pretty obvious what the environment is going to be...
    Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked
