Banks where Metro card will work in tenerife

In the title really. I am in tenerife and every cash machine is try with my metro card asks if I would like a naff conversion to GBP. When I decline and say I will take euros and let my bank do the conversion, they say no way (or technical fault for bbv)

It is obvious what they are up to, but are there any banks that do not do this?

Haven't used a Metro Bank card in Tenerife, but not had this issue with other bank cards in Tenerife, they allowed me to decline the conversion at ATMs. Mostly used Santander, I think.

I have used a Metro Bank debit card several times at various ATMs in Mallorca, and no problems declining the conversion there.

How much are you trying to withdraw? I've had this when trying to withdraw large amounts, drawing smaller amounts was much more reliable.

Only 200 euros, maybe my card/acnt is broken but metro did not say so when I asked them.

Try just 100 see if that makes a difference. ATMs in southern Europe do often have a low limit, I had the same problem where it said the bank had declined the transaction (it hadn't - confirmed that by phoning them), but taking out small amounts was more reliable.

Alternatively go in the bank and ask for a cash advance over the counter (though I guess they'll all be closed for a few days...)

Worked out in the end, my wife got a new card because she forgot her PIN, so Metro cancelled all the cards.
