I think you'll find that everything is geared towards people with children and I resent my taxes paying towards this. You also see this time and time again in African countries, starving couples with 5 children, why have them? Surely after 20 years of famine and corruption they would realise that it makes sense to have as few as possible.

Those children in the UK will be the ones caring for you whe you're too old and frail to wipe your own backside.

Hardly, kids today only want fame and wealth, without working for it.

I consider myself to have a family. My family is me, my girlfriend and our dog, but we get treated like second-class citizens because we don't have any children.

Going off on a slight tangent here, but it also makes me laugh when people who can hardly afford to feed themselves choose to have pets! You should see the number of street drinkers and rough sleepers round here, and loads of them have a pet dog. I suppose it's company for them, but pets are expensive!!

All these cooking shows about money saving meals to feed your family. What about money saving meals for yourself and you partner? Everything seems to be focused on parents and families.

Many "cheap" meals require slow cooking and are eminently suitable for freezing so are just as appropriate for a couple as a family. Batch cooking also means that you have access to easy meals during the working week - defrost during the day and reheat when you get home.

Or you could simply share your dog's food as you know it is fit for human consumption.

I sometimes can't hide my irritation when I see yet another news story about a couple struggling with money and struggling to feed their kids.

You're struggling because you've got kids! Don't have them, if you can't afford them. You're in horrendous debt because you've got kids.

Why don't they ever focus on a couple that doesn't have any children who are struggling but have wisely chosen not to have children.

I think saddling an ex with loads of debt is the best revenge possible. Nothing messes up someone's life better than screwing with their money. Will take years to pay off the debt, endless poverty, credit ruined - I mean what better revenge than that!

It's a great feeling when they're grovelling you to pay your half, but it's not legally enforceable. I pretend I'm going to pay, then just tell them to sod off. The best revenge is the one that you can keep using :-)

Maybe they're struggling because someone like you decided it would be a laugh to lump them with debt that's only half theirs:

Well done Lulu for fishing that out. What a unpleasant, bitter, spiteful individual the OP sounds. And what a horrible nasty attitude. His original post is dreadful!

Such a bitter and angry person. :(

I think you're overthinking a bit! It's just fact that it's cheaper to feed a couple than a family, and the target audience of cookery shows is most likely stay at home mothers with a family to feed. Stay at home mothers are, after all, at home with the kids. The singles are probably more likely to be out.

Though I think it's getting more common for people not to have kids, I still think more people do than don't, so from a business perspective it makes more sense to go for the biggest target market.

I think feeling like a second class citizen is your issue tbh! I don't want kids either, and whilst I do get annoyed with the you'll regret it/die alone/never know what love is etc etc brigade I don't feel like a second class citizen!

My mum has me age 39 when she was in a stable job. Had her own house and was financially secure.

When she was 45 she collapsed with a brain hemorrhage and an aneurism. This left her disabled for the rest of her life. As such finances changed.

Should she have not had a child because one day she may have become ill?

Circumstances change. Not everyone who is struggling to raise kids was struggling when they had them.

There's also people who have been the victim of vile creatures such as yourself saddling them with debts for fun.

I have made a friend who might be classed/seen as a rough sleeper. He sleeps rough because some of his delightful neighbours antagonise and put dog mess through his letterbox so stays away from his flat. He sells the Big Issue. He has a little dog as nobody else particularly cares about him. That dog has kept him going and is effectively HIS family. He always makes sure his dog has enough to eat and they are totally devoted to each other. I am convinced that without his dog he would no longer be with us - Doesn't make me laugh to see it but each to their own

    Thanks.

Poor woman ended up with all sorts. Epilepsy. No use of her arms. Angina. Stomach issues. Asthma. And eventually leukaemia. Which she didn't survive. But one thing she did have was masses of fight. No matter what she never felt sorry for herself and no matter the situation she found the humour. I may be a bit bias here but I have to say she was a pretty epic woman.
