Transferring catalogue debt?

Super sorry if I've posted this in the wrong place but can I heck find any board with the word catalogue in it! Feel free to reprimand the newbie
So in short, my partner and I have split up. He has three catalogues in his name but they're all my debts. I want to transfer them into my name so I can get him out if my life and I can concentrate on paying the bills without his input.
Please don't suggest I let him deal with it if they're in his name. I'm not that kind of person. I owe the money, not him so I'm not interested in letting him take the flack for items he didn't get. I just need a way of transferring the catalogues into my name so we can go our seperate ways for good. Does anyone know how I might go about getting this done? Much appreciated

You can't. You will need to give him the money for the debts so he can pay them off.0

the best way to do it, from a credit card point of view, if you don't have the cash available to pay it off is to get a credit card that allows for cash transfers to your bank account for a fee of a few %. Then pay off the catalogue with this cash.
How much is the debt?
This will all be on the pre-requisite that your credit history is good enough to get a CC with enough of a balance to transfer the whole amount of cash to you bank account.

look there for an explanation of what i am talking about.0 -
Ah it's about £3000 in total over the three catalogues but my credit rating is beyond poor so wouldn't be able to get a card to clear the balances.
This is what I was afraid of, I don't want to be tied to him for another 3 years or however long it'll take to repay. I read that people have had their catalogues transferred in the past but haven't been too sure as to how to go about it.0 -
1. Take out a loan yourself and pay your ex the money
2. If you have a good relationship with your bank, take out an overdraft and then pay your ex
3. Look at taking out a money transfer card such as MBNA and transfer the money to your bank account and then pay your ex
How much in total do you owe?
Assuming the reason you didn’t take out the catalogues yourself was because you have a poor credit history then your options are pretty much to do a Statement of Affairs, post on the Debt Free Wannabe forum and ask for advice on ways to cut back your spending and whatever money you save, pay your ex with.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. good advice above.
fwiw though you don't need to actually give him the cash...i wouldn't have thought. i would imagine that you can get the details and wire the money, when you have it from a card in your name for example, straight to the catalogue company. that way you a. know 100% that it is paid and b. have proof, if ever you should need it (accepting that it doesn't seem you ever will), that you cleared the debt yourself.0 -
Which company are the debts with?
If it's with the JD Williams Group they will allow you to transfer the accounts into your name.
However you will both need to sign and return a form for this to happen.
You will have to get your OH to state the accounts was opened with out his knowledge.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
sorry, just seen that you had replied with further info.
in light of that, the main thing is finding a way to raise the money.. as i understand that you are keen to draw a line under this.
but i dont think the catalogue companies will transfer the debt across to someone with a poorer credit history, and it isn't really the ideal scenario for you, even if they would:think:0 -

I have not heard of this being a possibility, but even if it was, unfortunately, no sensible finance company is going to transfer a debt to someone with a poor credit history who (i am assuming) couldn't get a catalogue in the first place.
I think the advice of a statement of affairs is good and just try to pay back as much as possible of any spare money each month to get it paid asap. Not ideal I would imagine, but the best I can see you are going to get.0 -

Probably not the best of ideas to go that particular road.
The company won't do anything other than transfer the accounts (I have very reliable insider information).Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0
