Let's say that Tribunal won't change the decision. How quickly I will have to pay the whole amount ?

The council will accept a reasonable offer.

Don't let me put you off appealing - if you don't try it then it then you don't know. Just don't build your hopes up either
  • I got something similar. I was overpaid by just 2 months by 612. I moved into temporary accommodation. I received a statement for the temp accommodation stating that the temp accom was paid in full but the put the overpayment separate at the bottom of the statement. Now I have received a letter to stating that the temp accom is in arrears because they took back their money. Can they do that? They are trying to make me homeless I think. I wanted to pay it separate.

Here is the guidance as regards recovery of overpayments of housing benefit:

    https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/405550/hbopg-part-4-recovery-of-overpayments.pdf

This might be useful when a decision is made.

    Just one final thing.

Since the debt is less than £15000 then you may be eligible for a Debt Relief Order. Housing benefit overpayments can be included in one. However, the criteria are quite strict.

Hopefully, you won't need to use one.

I agree that you need some advice as regards the tribunal. If you have CAB that has a benefits specialist then make a visit.

Thank you everyone for all advices. At the moment I send an email to council and I asked for final bill before the will send case to Tribunal and then I will decide what next. They didn't reply. I will wait and after while will ask them again. They know, they should communicate with me only by email. Time will show. For few days I will try to forget about my problem.
    Happy Easter everyone :)
